My least favourite pub in the area. Little or no atmosphere except for the live music on a thursdays. Boring pub which feels cold and unloved.

Phil, the manager of the Walpole Arms is the most unprofessional, egomaniac I have ever known. He booked our band well in advance of the gig date (19th July 2008). We turned up having come up from as far as Gravesend. Phil wasn't there but the doorman/duty manager was and had no idea we were booked. He phoned this Phil, who insisted he cancelled us (which he didn't) then went on to ask what music we played and how much we charged and denied ever booking us! A terrible manager with no social skills! Shame as he would have lost out on a lot of beer money as we had a big crowd coming down. (When we got there, there was about 4 people in the pub).

I didnt realise the pub had a new manager. This is probably a good thing as the last manager always insisted I have a loyalty card which I didnt want (nice enough guy but about 12 years old).
Great great food and such big portions for sandwiches (well it used to be, havent eaten there since new management).
Always nice for a meet-up.
It does lack a bit in atmosphere but is well kept and quite neutral in that it is easy to go there for different occassions (eg, grouo night out, alone, with partner)

Polish night was scary, I didnt realise people still danced like that and the music was worse than anything I've ever heard. Ever.

However, cant fault the people, they were lovely and the atmosphere was cool, they just need to raise the bar up about a foot so it's the right height, I cant be dealing with these low bars.
