On my visit here on Friday there were three barmaids and only one other customer other than myself, but we both had to wait to be served and even then he was served first even though I was waiting longer. The barmaid knew his drink without him saying anything so he was obviously a regular. I decided to leave without purchasing a drink as they obviously aren’t that bothered about my custom and I only popped in to check it out on my way to the far superior Harp along the way. Anyway, this is a thin wedge shaped modernised pub that has a selection of premium lagers and two hand pumps, but only Pride was available as the other was off. I’ll not be returning in any great hurry. Strongers - 22 Nov 2009 11:39
This pub serves as something of an overspill from the more popular 'Harp' next door. I popped here because I wanted a table and the Harp was too busy, and decided to try a few of the unusual foriegn lagers on offer. The pub is fairly smart and tidy, if a little bland downstairs, but I thought the upstairs seating area was very nice and a window seat gave a fairly decent view of life milling about on the street below. The beers were pretty expensive though, with some of the bottled lagers coming in at over £4 a go, but I didn't try the pints, so I'm not sure how they compare. Pubsignman - 27 Oct 2009 21:40
Not so keen on this place after the refurb - purely aesthetic though, still ok as a boozer. lennie384 - 27 Sep 2009 01:08
Went to go to the Harp but it was busy so we popped in here instead. I was amazed that as the Harp was so full that there was just one old boy at the bar and no-body else in!! That filled me with dread as there must be a reason why the place was so empty as it seemed nice enough. Only one ale though, London Pride which was pretty good. But they should offer at least three as a minimum standard to be a proper boozer!! Not a bad pub but could be improved if the barmaid learnt how to use the till properly and they put some tables out front so my mate and I could sit and people watch. bish80 - 17 Mar 2009 11:17
M&B sold it outright, as far as I'm aware, one of a number of good pubs they put up for sale at the same time. This used to be a nice place to go to for some decent beer, but they seem to be trying to appeal to the lager crowd now – a fickle bunch at the best of times. But I'm relieved that it's still a pub because I feared the worst after its closure. It's hopefully only a matter of time before a more enlightened landlord comes along and improves the beer selection and gives it its proper name back. For the time being though, I'll be in the Harp or Ship & Shovell. Barrowboy_and_Banker - 1 Dec 2008 00:21
