New things coming for this pub very soon which will still have all the best local real ale and an improved atmosphere

Excellent description below by UKMikey of the atmosphere in this Pub, we too were treated like Aliens recently, when we called in here on a Hot sunny afternoon after Cycling along the track. It was almost like as if they did not want to serve you, and all the locals just stared at us, as if they had never seen a Cyclist before. Very much like " The League of Gentlemen " we thought, perhaps they should re-name the Pub " Welcome to Royston Varsey " What a very odd place indeed to have a drink, I too will drive past a bit quicker now when I go that way, especially at night ........

Having driven passed this pub for literally decades I decided to drop-in. The half dozen people there looked at me as if I was English [or even worse ... American!], 1-0 to the locals. The lighting resembled something from M & S, 2-0 to the locals, barman [maybe the landlord] looked like he'd just got out of bed and actually had to serve someone he didn't know, 3-0 to the locals, I ordered my beer using an English accent [own goal!], 4-0 to the locals. The local brew whatever it was tasted good, 4-1. Left after 1 pint, final score 4-1. I decided to forfeit the 2nd leg and vow to drive passed the front door for several more decades. Who knows, they may have even served food?

I visited this pub in June on recommendation from a friend after a day at the cricket in Swansea. Brilliant little locals pub tucked out of the way. Everyone very friendly, excellent range of ales including four from Swansea Brewery Company which were superb. Simply can't fault the place. You're unlikely to be "just passing" but it's well worth a diversion and I'll be back as soon as I can.

Seek this pub out. It is just off the old railway line which is now a walk/cycleway. Excellent real ale range
