Found this place on holiday when searching for somewhere to eat. The beers were from small northern breweries and served in tip-top condition. The food was exceptionally good with the steak pie being, "the best I've ever had", to quote my lady wife. We booked in for later in the week, and were not the only ones to do this. Our first impressions were confirmed and surpassed. This time I drank Allendale Pale Ale which was perfect. The owners are making a real effort to build a reputation for for good pub grub and fine ales, and deserve to succeed.

Decent if unexceptional pub, open all day long even during the winter which can be pretty handy in an area where you've a fair walk to another pub (apart from the one on the corner nearby that we didn't try on our recent stay).

Friendly staff, a couple of real ales on (the Farne Island was very nice), and an unexpected but entertaining poker night on the Thursday night we were in there. They do food but we didn't try it.

Having seen this in the Good Beer Guide 2010, we diverted on our annual walk from Low Newton to Craster to sample their hospitality. It was well worth it; the beers were from Hadrian & Border and Jarrow breweries (a relief from the ubiquitous Black Sheep which was also present) and were well kept. Their was one vacant handpump no doubt for busier times. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the food was good quality and very good value.

Whilst there, we overheard the young landlord going about his business on the 'phone and with dray men; it was clear this was a guy who was dedicated to making a good pub with quality products. Good on yer mate - I wish you every success!!

Have to agree with other comments. Real Ale reduced to two on our visit and lovely bar gal honestly commented that one was a 'bit cloudy' 10 out of 10 for honesty but still went for the other. Food and wine good value but you'd better book if you want to sit in the resturant area and not be squeezed in in the bar area.

Always enjoy visiting this friendly place when in the area. Real ale is good, food has been delicious and been welcome to bring our greyhound into pub. Its a must for us when in Northumberland.
