Some would call the layout and pub 'quirky' though I would say more weird. Three sections, one housing a pool table and the others with an odd arrangement of seating amid SAS novels. No proper ale so went for the unusual keg Bass which tasted like a lager with colour. I was the only person apart from the friendly enough character behind the bar. Looks like both Radlett and Elstree will soon be without a pub.

This pub has definitely improved recently, and is now the only pub left in the High Street. The decor is basically unchanged, and they've kept the old photos on the walls - good. There's also a guest beer, currently Marstons Pedigree at £2.60 a pint, which is good stuff. But there's still no food, and several of the regulars carry on effing and blinding even when there are children around. The litmus test: if I lived in Elstree would I drink here more often? The answer is yes, but without much enthusiasm.

The manager and his barstaff are first-rate: friendly, hospitable and efficient. Also worth noting- the Guinness is excellent, as the boys take their cellar duties very seriously.

Having said that, it's not one of the greats. The pool table dominates the pub to the exclusion of a proper seating arrangement and there's an unfortunate whiff of pikey about too many of the regulars.

A curate's egg of a pub.

My partner and me went in their seeking refreshment on a bloody hot day - we had walked from Totteridge and were on our way to Edgware. What a lovely funny bunch of souls there were in this pub on the Sunday we went in. The only downside was there were no real beers on - but the hospitality was so welcoming. This place would piss all over the East bar and restaurant up the road if it provided basic nosh for walkers and locals, plus proper beers. But I can't fault them for the basic start in pub life - manners. Ray seems like a legend - birthday coming up and wants a fancy dress do..........get in!!!
But do get some real beer mate....
