I have been a local in this pub for the last 25 years and can honestly say it is probably at its worst I have ever seen. The prices have increased on a regular basis way above many other pubs within the area. This used to be a pub that was always full regardless of recession, but over the last 2-3 years it has declined. There has been numerous attempts from landlords to revive it but it appears the senior management do not listen to common feelings from the locals and staff which in turn has driven a lot of people away. In the good days I would have reated this place at least 9, 10 on a good day. I believe 3 is an honest mark.

Good pub.

The two bars are very different. Part of small chain, the landlords change fairly regularly (18 months the current one).

The chain is now more flexible with real ale choice so micros (particularly local ones) usually now available.

Guest beers can be a bit ill-chosen (e.g. all dark, or all strong).

Only just found this 1930's gem. Visited last Thursday evening and to my surprise the lounge was full with drinkers and diners. I could have been mistaken but isn't this a recession? The whole pub was lively and full of atmosphere and conversation! As I made my way to the bar for my well earned pint a pretty waitress passed me with 2 plates of food that smelt just the ticket. I ordered a pint of 'Naked Ladies', no not a joke but an excellant beer from the Twickenham Brewery. It was first class and as I supped my eyes cast towards the food, quickly I text my partner in 'wine', to join me. After all there was a 2 for 1 offer on the food and a Yorkshireman can't miss that!! We had a fantastic bar meal, service was great and even the Landlord (wearing a shirt and tie!!) came over and checked that everything was ok with the beer! Oh sorry and the food!
Pub is a bit dated but quality of offer and level of service was a joy to behold we will definately be back. Well done to all staff for being so happy at what you do! Loved it.

Still selling 5 - 8 well kept real ales. GK IPA, Abbott and Pride are house ales plus 3 to 4 guests. Rather pricey so not doing as well as it used to. Food not as good as it was either. Had a few jars ( of very pleasant Phipp's IPA ) and a meal on Saturday and instead of the usual 2 to 3 deep at the bar ( a few years ago ), the pub was markedly quiet. Managing to survive, but at what cost? A sign of the times!

Nice looking pub. tucked out the way. when you get inside its clean and tidy but brightly lit and very low on character.
there is also the feeling that you have walked into someones house uninvited and kind of unwelcome too.
