| Large sprawling pub situated at the foot of Richmond Hill close to the Petersham Hotel, in former stables. Older drinkers may remember this pub as The Tudor Close, one of the forerunners of the real ale revolution in London. I have rather hazy recollections of splendid pints of Brakspears Special and Ruddles County, inter alia, in the late 70's. It's now a Sam Smith's pub with, unusually for Sams, a light pine wood pannelled interior that does indeed have the feel of a Harvester, decor wise. It's comfortable and cosy, but with something of a hotel bar atmosphere. There's nothing really of note, apart from a bar billiards table, which seems slightly incongrous in the surroundings. Being slightly out of the Town Centre, it's invariably rather quiet and it's far enough away from the towpath not to pick up the passing trade from visitors. It does have a number of rooms for overnight accommodation and prices seem reasonable for the area, but this basically a pub with rooms. The Sam Smith's OBB - £ 1.90p - is not real and tasted rather cold on my recent visit. Given that this was Sam's first London pub, it's disappointing that they don't see fit to offer real ale. | the landlord is arrogant his wife was drunk , the room was a room with terrible breakfast facilities i will not be going back there and i will not be reccomending this hotel to anyone , won,t go there again tink44 - 26 Aug 2009 23:10 |
| went to this pub a couple weeks back after a walk along the river with my partner............ WHAT A VILE PLACE! I sat in the garden while my partner got the drinks and there was a group of young people smoking a joint, bit surprised as staff were walking in and out of the garden and didnt say anything... my partner then came out and was embarrased to repeat what the disgusting man behind the bar had just said to his mate "you can smell the fanny from here" as if that wasnt bad enough he then walked across to the table where the group where smoking and started to smoke a joint and downed a pint of beer. Our food then arrived STUCK to a napkin. We asked for our money back and left very quickly.... ashame as this has the potential to be a fantastic pub. bumbalina - 11 Jun 2009 18:17 |
| The decor looks very tired and dated, like a 80s Harvester. The ranges of beers is limited and the pint of Old Brewery Bitter that I had was not very appetising (this used to be my regular drink) or full. Cannot see a reason to go there. Matthew_of_Ham - 14 Mar 2009 18:36 |
