| I've been in The Flapper on and off since 2008. It's run by a family that has always been friendly towards myself and others ever since I first ventured in. The drinks are cheap which in this economic climate is good news. They sell pizzas to the hungry which I've yet to try but as the staff and owners are happy to eat them then I assume they're fine. The pubs other main strengths lie in it's location by the canal, lovely in the summer, and it's music room which caters to a wide variety of musical tastes. From the posters on the walls it's obvious that a lot can happens. There are quiz nights, there used to be poker nights (they may still happen) and the venue has played host to events outside of band nights such as burlesque and stand up comedy. The only downside with the venue is the graffiti in the mens toilets, but don't let a few stupid people ruin your enjoyment of a fine pub that has so much to offer. JAK - 26 Jul 2011 22:02 |
| The Flapper has been my local for about 6 years now, and the main draw for me is the music - it's probably my favourite place to see a gig. Some of the finest rock & metal bands from Birmingham, the UK and abroad come to play here, with the highlight of the year being summer's 3 day "Off The Cuff" festival. Upstairs, locally-renowned DJ's play the coolest indie music - but they're not shy of some cheesy rock and the odd request either. There's also a large canalside beer garden to cool off in on a hot summer evening. The beer is cold, the crisps are crunchy, but the trump card at the Flapper is its amazing staff - not the cool, sullen type; these lot are friendly and warm, and will make you feel genuinely welcome every time. | The Flapper is a great venue to go to if you want see ACTUAL talent and genuinely great bands. The caliber of bands to play in The Flapper just keeps rising with the best up and coming bands from all around. The atmosphere in the pub is always great and the selection of beers on both bars is fantastic. Not a bad word to say about the place except for it may be a little hard to park at times but all in all an absolutely cracking pub and venue in a great setting!. nobonesaboutit - 15 Apr 2011 23:10 |
| Canal side Indie / rock pub. Worth getting away from the Brindley Place chains to find. Although a bit drab inside, the large canal-side beer garden is my favourite in Brum. Usually one or two decent ales on pump. toilets may not be the best but nothing you wouldnt expect in a student-y rock pub. Ed1978 - 29 Jun 2010 18:18 |
| The Flapper (they have dropped the Firkin bit now) I used to work here when it first opened and havent been in since - so i was pleasently suprised by what I found. Good music selection (Stones , Who , some new Indie) although a bit loud for my hearing these days ! Only 2 Ales on , but both very drinkable - younger clientel but no grief and pool tables too !! We had a nice couple of hours in here and will be going back soon. Yes the Prince is over the road , but The Flapper is very much unique around this part of town . 7 out 10 (let down by the toilets - better than I remember them though...)
