Popped in the other week. Ordered a couple of pints of Moorhouses' "Witch Hunt" which assaulted even my companion's unsophisticated palate. The beer was exchanged with good grace by the barmaid. As with many of the "real ale" pubs, there are simply too many beers for the turnover. The result is that the poor customer has to gamble on how long the barrel has been on for and whether any has been pulled off that day. If lucky, a fresh pint; if not, disappointment and the hassle of returning the offending pint. menelaus42 - 18 Oct 2008 16:16
How the winds of change blow through the licensed trade. With the decline of the Howcroft we tried another visit here although lots of cask pumps always make me wary. Needless to say we were served two pints of vinegar by the Bet Lynch lookalike however these were rapidly changed for something better. Does the landlord here never taste his own stock to prevent customers having to suffer 'pesh'! manstein - 18 Oct 2008 16:13
Probably the best proper boozer in Bolton - and a fine selection of ales... well worth a visit. ian.g - 19 Sep 2008 16:48
Both myself and a friend sent a drink back in here recently, the landlord changed my friends without question but tasted mine and told me there was nothing wrong with it and it wasn't his fault if I didn't like the taste. They were both the same brew bought and returned at the same time!!! He then spent the rest of our time in there continuously walking past our table glaring at us. If you want a sour pint served by an equally sour landlord then this is the pub for you! boltonbloke - 15 Aug 2008 13:25
Agreed on comments below. With the sad decline of the Howcroft it'll be seeing more of my money. manstein - 12 May 2008 13:08
