We went here for lunch today, and noted the carpark was chockfull and the driver said "Sod that then". I said we should try to squeeze in, as a busy carpark is a good indicator of a good pub, and sure enough, a car left and we were able to fit in.
Very good move, as it happened. We had Butcombe & Tim Taylors Landlord, both in very good condition, although maybe a little too cold, but probably so to encourage the lagerists to try the proper stuff.
Saw a couple of old pals here, who I hadn't seen for some time, so that's a good sign. The food was better than most pubs I've tried (and I've tried quite a few).
My pal (the driver), who is a chef with many years experience, pronounced the repast as one of the best pub meals he's ever eaten, so that just about sums it up.
Suits me.

Four of us went for Sunday lunch yesterday and had an absolutely fantastic meal. The food was excellent and the service offered was so hospitable - we couldn't have asked for anything more. Would definitely recommend people to go to this pub.

A Very nice comfortable welcoming and tranquil local situated on the outskirts of Street,Bcombe Bitter and TT Landlord on offer served by a seriously cute barmaid. 8/10

I was working in Street last summer, and the Elms became my local. Both the owner and barman always treated myself and all my colleagues with cortesy and were very friendly and helpful.
The beer was excellent, and if the one we wanted had passed Jon would tell us it was off, and offer something else. He never served a bad beer and I feel he never would!
One evening was particularly lively, with Sneaky Pete and The Vipers playing live, and an excellent time was had by all.
With regard to those whe are too short-sighted to see beyond pony tails, earrings and beards, I would suggest that The Elms is better off without such people.
Don't worry Jon, anyone who really knows you will be sure to return!

I was a regular user of Jon & Pauline's pub in Somerton and now they've craeted a great atmosphere at the Elms - unfortunately I now have to drive there (or get the wife to!). The beer is always immaculate and as some other reviewers have noted Jon is a fount of knowledge. A group of us had Sunday lunch there last week and it was excellent - Pauline's catering has not changed!
Who cares about the sartorial elegance - the staff are all charming and helpful and J&P have revitalised what was previously a pretty grim offering. Go there (and get someone else to drive!).
