| Must be the worst pub I've ever been in for the welcome. Went there in my lunch hour to watch the rugby, as it was during workday I just got a coca cola, asked them for food but the old woman came down and told me no. Fair enough, I just got a pack of peanuts and watched the game with about 7 old time regulars. I finished my cola with about 10 minutes to go and was asked if I wanted another drink. I said no and the old bat asked me to leave, I asked her why and she said cos I wasn't drinking. I said I wasn't leaving as I had done nothing wrong and she came out with arguments like 'I can't just have people coming here off the street to watch the rugby'. I let her know that I had already bought a drink and some nuts and I would have bought food had they been serving. It got very heated, in fact to the point that she turned the tv off in the last 5 minutes which her regulars must have really appreciated. All in all I would strongly advise everyone to stay away from this place and the old, old battleaxe PerryGee - 16 Jun 2009 16:09 |
| Not a bad little boozer, ok beer, a few strange looks as I walked in but otherwise a nice pub. The_D_Man - 9 Jan 2009 21:31 |
| well it seems that a few people have been asked to take there custom elsewhere, have just come out of the oak(30/06/08)and the atmosphere was a lot better than the previous visit, the t.e.a. was in fine condition mrs man-at-the-bar was worried that i had 5 pints, but what the hell(i wasnt driving)the customer base seemed to be back to normal i.e regulars and no chavs, service was very friendly and fast, lets all hope the new landlady keeps up the good work, this used to be the best pub in town, lets hope it continues. | On Thursday they had cloudy but drinkable TEA, Hobgoblin and Courage Best. Central bar, screen to watch the football. Looked like there was a beer garden out back. GuideDogSaint - 21 Jun 2008 19:39 |
| i have to agree with stella-fella,i have been using the oak for about 10 yrs now,i was in the oak at lunchtime today 01/06/08 have got to say the customer base has really gone down hill, probaly due to the fact that the hotham has closed and other pubs in the area are being more selective in the people they chose to serve, but while saying that, the old regulars are still around, the beer was of good quality and the service was very good.gordon has been gone for a while now and this is the second new managment team, they took over from a long established couple gordon and barbara, who for many faults (some might say)run a very good public house.lets give the newish landlady a chance to see what she can do.from me a very good 7 out of 10.
