user reviews of the Hope and Anchor, Midford

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I beleive this pub is often described as a gastro-pub, but I'm not a fan of this pretentious term so won't use it! Instead, I'll describe the Hope and Anchor as a friendly pub in a charming country setting, serving excellent home cooked food and great beer.

I've been to this pub both for meals and for drinks a number of times, and each time have had an excellent meal and, when not driving, a great pint of Bath Gem beer.

The only downside to this pub is trying to get out of the car park on a blind bend!!

Well, I can't understand the 4.0 rating this pub currently has, so I will do my best to bump it right up. The beer is mainly local, and good. The food, which is a very big feature here (and hence it will not appeal to all - this is not a beer and skittles village local) is imaginative, unpretentious and very soundly cooked. And not expensive. The service is friendly and you do not have to issue reminders, even when they're very busy.

It is also, for residents of Bath beleaguered by tourists and what caters for them on the one hand, and local yokels and the ****holes that cater for them on the other, a blessed and accessible relief.
