Once again enjoyed a lovely lunchtime meal, ( outside in the sunshine no less!) , despite the change of management its nice to see that the staff are still the sameand that the quality of food and service hasn't changed in the slightest. Definitely worth a visit!

I have been coming here for years and I am very sad to say the food/ service is at its absolute rock bottom. The food takes over 2 hours to arrive and is delivered in in separate batches; the kids being made to wait last, another 30 mins later. 2 small slices of cold, dry roast beef "with all the trimmings" cold over cooked veg, unwashed salad, with the cutting skills of a chimp and the overall the presentation of something out of Wetherspoons (and that is unfair on them!). VERY BAD, especially as less than 1 year ago it was the other end of the spectrum, absolutely lovely food. What is going on here? Get a grip. Control your pub. Oh and the bathrooms need an upgrade. Very sad to see such a great pub as this be run in such a way. I will return sometime in the future and I hope for a full revamp of management and kitchen staff.......its like Ramseys Kitchen nightmares right now. SORT IT OUT!

First let me state, I have a real problem with Greene King beer, not sure why but there is nothing inspiring about Abbott and GK IPA is not an IPA in the real sense. These two seem to be the stock house ale, so everything was down to the guest beer - Yorkshire Terrier from the York Brewery, thank the lord that this malty bitter was well kept.

That said I'd worry if the guest ale wasn't good!

So what makes this pub worth visiting? Its the food, not so much the quality as this is no Gastro Pub but the quantity and sheer good value. This probably makes this pub a super meeting point in the evening for the community of Birchanger and a favourite with travellers using Stansted Airport looking for a decent meal before departure.

Good friendly welcome, very helpful bar staff. Not much wrong with this pub that a few more real ales might sort out!

Good place to drink. Never too crowded. Would recomend.

Traditional village pub, with a limited amount of cricket memorabilia about the walls. Three real ales on - IPA, Abbott and a decent ruby Big Red ale from the Ossett Brewery. Didn't seem particularly friendly, but worth a visit if flying to/from the nearby Stansted Airport or looking for a stop close to the M11.
