Beer garden at rear is handy if you have dogs and want a break. Water bowl available and pleasant staff. willie22 - 11 Jul 2009 16:50
A very mixed pub experience. The best known of the central York 'free on entry' music pubs, and some of the bands are excellent. see http://blueflies.fotopic.net/c688647.html and http://freespirityorkband.fotopic.net/ John Smiths Cask beer is as ordinary as it is anywhere. Since going no smoking (private yard to the side available) the carpet has been renewed and this makes a considerable difference! Very very busy especially at weekends with tourist meals at midday and considerable drifting in and out of numerous people all evening. But a very strong local clientelle, some coming in as three generations of a family. The baths are a novelty - (and genuine!). Great to think of people enjoying themselves on this spot for 1800 years. freepaul - 9 May 2008 17:20
The "entertainment" is slightly better than the beer. Avoid. MountainMan - 8 Apr 2008 16:49
Stumbled in on locals Karaoke, didn't stay for too long! TheMuz - 29 Mar 2008 18:53
Looks ok outside, interesting view of the roman remains under glass at your feet. I felt very uncomfortable in there, as though I was totally unwanted. Very sinister. I hope it's changed recently Cibalia - 12 Nov 2007 12:55
