user reviews of the Black Horse, Thorndon

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Black Horse was our final stop of the night in Suffolk. It was late in the evening and with all diners and kitchen/waiting staff having departed, there was just the landlord, one other customer at the bar and myself. 4 ales were on - Shortt's Strummer, Adnams Bitter & Ghost Ship & Greene King IPA. Shortt's is the local brewery. So, I had to try the Strummer, which was a good way to finish off the evening. Nice country pub, with a friendly landlord.

I lived in Thorndon for a while, The Black horse doe do good food and has a pleasant atmosphere all though its decor and furniture could do with updating.
I gave it a 6 mainly because its not really a drinkers pub, They tend to cater for eaters.

Very friendly when we went in recently. A bit chilly though. Local Aspalls cider well worth a try!

We visited the Black Horse on a Sunday a couple of weeks ago, the pub is in the centre of the village, an attractive building that looks more like a house than a Pub, with a large tidy garden.
Arriving at about 12:45, we just managed to squeeze into the large car park, very busy.
I wanted to visit this Pub because it was listed for inclusion in the Good Beer Guide so I was curious, I was not disappointed, the beer was excellent.
The place is very much food orientated, which looked delicious and seemed reasonably priced, and despite the fact that food seems to be the main attraction, several 'regulars' where coming in for a drink and we where not made to feel unwanted in the least, the staff where friendly and polite despite being very busy.
Definately a place I shall return to, but to eat next time.
