Firstly...a fine selection of ales! This is indeed a step forward and long may it last!! I visited The George on a Friday night and the place was full and buzzing! The music selection was excellent and got better as the night went on. Due to the fact that there are bouncers at the weekend the "buzz" was created by people of the right age which is a refreshing change to the many other sub-standard pubs in the area who simply serve alcohol to anyone. I have also eaten at The George a couple of times and always found the food to be tasty and well priced. I Will be going back soon!! Dkay - 16 Jun 2008 23:24
Used to go to this pub a couple of years ago on a fairly regular Sunday brunch basis. Concur with comments re beers, generally interesting selection but I think the place has gone downhill a little. Despite banners plastered all over the place advertising waitress service till 3pm, that, as I found out wasn't the case and when food came it was mediocre and not really worth the money. Tables were dirty and the back courtyard garden populated with braying hooray henriettas. Won't be going back for a while. lounger - 12 May 2008 15:24
I meant 'beers', obviously... myPetersfield - 17 May 2007 22:56
Really rather snazzy - more a bistro/ bar than a pub, but roomy and comfortable enough to just enjoy a few beees. A handful of excellent ales (Deuchars, Hopback Summer Lightning and Sharp's Doombar when we were in), a terrific range of wines by the glass or bottle and a nice selection of brasserie-style food. The 'Burger Kitchen' looks good too, if you have a substantial gap to fill, as does Sunday brunch. Acoustic music on Friday evenings, something a bit louder on Sundays really looks like a very good place. Sofas and easy chairs around the bar at the front, tables and chairs at the back and an outdoor courtyard too. Best place for a drink and a bite in the centre of Petersfield, certainly, and really making an effort. Excellent. myPetersfield - 17 May 2007 21:10
My girlfriend and I came here Saturday night (11 Nov) for a few drinks given our local H-File. The place had a Slug and Lettuce feel to it in terms of décor and we were served at the bar promptly, with a Magners and a blue WKD coming to £5.90. The Magners, however, came in a 330 ml bottle as opposed to a 568 ml one, which was the first time I had seen this. I liked the mixture of music they were playing here, which did not include funky house or chart cheese, while there was a relaxed atmosphere until a fight broke out. The bouncers eventually took care of the situation, even if their approach was initially a bit lackadaisical. I liked the idea of coat pegs in the place as well as the seating area towards the back of the place near the toilets. It was mainly full of blokes, with a few women about. Overall, a decent boozer to visit on a Saturday night, before moving onto the Vertigo nightclub. Also, given how fairly cold it was this Saturday night, it is worth noting that this is the closest pub to the nightclub as well! Searching_for_H_Files - 13 Nov 2006 12:40
