I like this pub. I met some friends for a reunion in December 2010 and we parked ourselves on the shambling sofas at one end of the pub, partially separated from the rest of the bar by one of the fireplaces. It was very comfortable and relaxed. On the plus side: the beer is kept well; the peanuts are excellent; the landlord & landlady for very nice - friendly but not over familiar; the clientele are just right; the jukebox has a great selection of "classic rock"; there are local kebab van, a chip shop, Chinese and Indian for post-beer snack; the train station is 4 minutes away; and there are newspapers for whilst you are waiting. We took part in the Thursday night pub quiz, which was well run by the landlord. This was the only downside to the evening... we are rubbish at quizzes! A very nice pub, highly recommended.

Dropped in for a quick pint with a mate the other Friday and ended up staying til kicking out time. Well kept Morrell's Varsity was the main attraction but having said that once we'd finished it the replacement ales were more than adequate (just can't remember them now!) Warm welcome and excellent jukebox. Will definately be returning on a regular basis.

hi i resently visited this pub in wokingham and thought it was a nice pub great music and friendly pleasent staff.

the band were a little late starting. i can understand that i was a bit drunk so didnt bother me towards the end of the evening i over heard what i thought was the manager telling a band member to pack up and get the f@@k out of the pub with reduced payment.

i hope this was not true as he will get known for knocking bands then he'll have trouble getting bands

pleasent pub with friendly staff and from what i saw a very unpleasent and rude manager (avoid this pub) beer flat prices not good

Things have really improved recently in the Hope.
It's under new management and I think he has really turned it around.
There is live music at the weekend, which has been pulling in a big and varied croud of friendly local faces. The other weekend I bumped in to several peaple I haven't seen in town for a long time. It's good to see the Hope back on it's feet and to have live music back in Wokingham on a regular basis.
Very pleased.

Having previously lived in Wokingham for a while, my heart sank when some friends suggested we go here but we went into this pub on Saturday night and I have to say I was suprised. I hadn't been in here for at least 3 years but it's under new management it seems. Live music was absolutely superb and the beer was good under the circumstances (was very busy). I'll probably go back and try it again should I be in the area when it's a little quieter - a definite improvement on previous visits.
