Great pub! Excellent choice of real ales from the micro brewery, good food very reasonably priced, friendly staff. What more could you want?!

This attractive 17th century pub is home to the 1648 Brewing Company which is located in the old stables next door. And as such you can expect a good range of their beers available (along with Alton’s Pride and Harvey’s Sussex Best on my visit) and – as you would expect from a brewpub – the beer quality was excellent in the three I tried.

As noted below, look out for the unusual (unique?) double-decker urinal arrangement. Both appear to plumbed, so take your pick! And watch your head on the way out!

The pub itself is light, airy and catches the sun well. There is an attractive tiled-floor room in addition to the main bar which is decorated with some nice painted bottles along the ledging.

All in all, a super pub and well recommended.

Been in here a few times in the last couple of months and the beer is always on excellent form. usually three of their own and one guest. The 1648 Signature is very good. The food is not bad either. If you get ten of you to go you can have a brewery tour (cowshed at the side I think!) Carefree

Oooops, forgot to mention the interesting double decker urinal in the gents for those who like to 'splash their boots!'
More than 5'10" tall? ....beware the low beam above the steps as you return to the bar!!

I visited here yesterday lunchtime and had a warm welcome from the bar staff. The 1648 Smokey Nol was also very pleasant. Will be back soon with a load of mates!!!
