went in on a friday early afternoon. for a wetherspoons got served easily. the pint of abbot was a bargain at £1-35 a pint which was cheap even by wetherspoons standards. found it a good pub and was busy. for the time of day . would go again if i was in berwick again forestwood - 1 Feb 2012 19:32
You know how there are only two kinds of Wetherspoon? The good ones with well kept ales and friendly and efficient staff; and the grim care in the community halls for borderline sociopathic alcoholics. This is the latter. twohalves - 6 Aug 2011 23:23
Called in last Saturday afternoon. The price of the beer on offer and the food are the obvious (but unfortunately the only) reasons to visit. I received a pint of Abbott but it was obviously off. Spoke to another female staff member who gladly pulled another, explaining it had just been changed. It still wasn't right, so I was offered an alternative, which was drinkable without being memorable. The plate of chilli con carne nachos were cheap, cheerful and quick to arrive. Some of the male locals were loud if inoffensive and it wasn't overfull.....that said the weather was filthy!! The right side of okay for the visit but no more. DME - 8 Feb 2011 12:28
For such a historic and much-visisted town, although the building itself is OK this is a Wetherspoons which should be better than it is. An above average number of terminally unemployed handrollers both inside and in the doorway making it difficult to enter, with the bonus of a whiff of cannabis in passing, but on the positive side an unusual absence of single mothers in trackies with their sprogs in buggies. Two drinkable beers from Northumbrian at £1.29 a pint and the cheapest Wetherspoons meal offers I've seen anywhere seemingly explain its popularity. It does what it says on the tin, but I would not bother to visit again. Stamfordian - 5 Feb 2011 10:51
On a sunny January afternoon, I arrived and waited at the bar. Another guy was there and it seemed that the Unleaded had gone off and she was changing "it". Time passed slowly - the girl avoided any eye contact - no communication whatsoever. Eventually the problem was sorted out and the customer served. As I prepared to ask for a drink a bloke got up from a group of local stalwarts and she served him instead. Perhaps I should have written my order on Facebook or texted her. I walked out. Mr. Hampson really should root out rubbish like this. Points : 1 for the view JBGatelad - 5 Feb 2011 10:36
