Horrible. Do yourself a favour and walk into town. timsmith - 1 Nov 2011 21:51
what a shame!.This pub is known locally as "maggies Bar" and is a pub "ran by the staff for the staff and their cliques" the food is unpredictable at best , the ale is,,,, well much the same. And the attitude of some of the staff is lousy at to say the least , even though i love a drink and live under 10 mins walk away from the lanes aka "the old stains" i will now not go in there. This could be such a cracking community pub not by spending loads of money but just by getting staff that actually make you and your kids feel welcome and not an inconviniance ,ones that don't spend their time moaning about how much work they have to do , or having Attitudes with other staff or customers , how many eyes roll when you dare to ask for something different on the menu?. Food ... the kitchen just can't cope if there are more than a few tables on the go , over an hours wait for a portion of chips! come on M&B sort it out !! this pub is detracting from you brand ,you have some craking sizzlers out there , like the one near gosport. move the team from there to here Please kosh - 4 Jun 2011 14:41
They call this a family pub. They advertise baby changing facilities on the disabled door but it has none (apart from the floor), they have no childrens play area or gates, children have to be out by 9, the bar staff are ignorant and feel it is a chore to serve you, there is always shouting and foul language coming from the bar during sports. Do your self a favour and walk 10 minutes away towards town. there are much better places. Old Drain you are a discrace !!! bill484 - 9 Apr 2009 10:04
Can't comment on food because the first chance I had to visit since the makeover, the kitchen was shut! Still, definitely better than before, but as everdean has pointed out, it is crammed with young'uns. For some its one step up from sitting on the wall outside Tesco's! Which is good. wilts99 - 25 Oct 2008 21:57
I like this pub. I moved to the area in May 2007. The pub before refit was OK but was in need of a refit. Post refit and the place really smartened up. It is a place for local youngsters to hang out, only because their are few alternatives for them. I can't agree with the pipes issue as I don't drink that much ale. I like the Old Lane so much that I spend Christmas Day there with my family. It was our first Christmas spent at a pub and it also coincided with the owners first Christmas there too. The meal was vast and very high quality too. The atmosphere was friendly and warm and my family enjoyed themselves so much that they are begging to go back this Christmas. The only downfall I have with this pub is like any other pub, you have to walk through a curtain of cigarette smoke to actually get inside. geddoyle - 3 Jun 2008 15:55
