The location is beautiful. Very good for a pint on a summer day or evening. Nice decor but not too happy about the food. I felt some items were a little pricey and there was a limited choice. Also when we visited several things were off the menu. If you order a meal with chips you would expect the chips with the meal and not 10 minutes later!

Finally I did not feel particularly welcome at this pub. This is very important to me & did not find the staff that served me as friendly or happy.

Used to go here with my Grandparents when I was a child and yesterday a few of us went for a meal and booked a table. It was the first visit in a very long time and it has to be said it will be a long time before we go to eat there again.
Service was slow, and when trying to order another drink with our food, we were told the waiter wasn't allowed to bring drink to our table and we would have to go the bar ourselves! (?)
Never in a restaurant have I ever had this said before.
The food took a long time, dried up lamb cutlets on cold mash, and cold plates! dried up tasteless lasagne with melted cheddar on the top (it wasn't even layered, just a mess), chewy lamb chops and all salad drenched in sour oily dressing, so that you couldn't taste the salad.
It is a shame when somewhere describes itself as fresh, homemade food that the food was of poor standard on a Saturday evening, surely a time that should be peak?
Waiter's attempts to be friendly and funny came across as rude and sarcastic.
I just feel sorry for my mother who paid for it all, hoping to treat her family.
Lovely view, so will go for a drink only next time.

Just returned home from holiday in Cornwall. We thoroughly enjoyed our visits to the Heron Inn, the first occasion was going to be just a lunch visit which ran into a whole afternoon! The views across the river are idyllic and can be enjoyed from the terrace outside the pub and although the pub was quite busy there are plenty of tables available. There is an excellent menu available and our order was well cooked and well served, good wine selection and the men enjoyed the 'Proper Job' and 'Tribute' local ales, worthy of mention at this juncture is the barmaid, she seemed to have eight arms and dealt with food and drink orders in unflappable style. There had to be a drawback and its parking, the first time we took the advice of the local rag and enjoyed a fantastic cruise from Falmouth to Malpas the second time we drove and to say that parking is at a premium is to understate the case. We look forward to returning next year.

My name is Jonathan and I am the landlord of the Heron Inn. My wife Karen and I took over the Heron in October 2008, the previous tennants had been here for 37 years. Since taking over we have increased the standard of food by removing all boil-in-the-bag style food and replacing them with HOMEMADE FOOD from LOCAL PRODUCE AND SUPPLIERS. We now cater for all dietary requirements and needs. Our customer service has improved through staff training and we have put a real emphasis on being warm and inviting. We have installed a dart board and have a village dart team. We have a regular quiz night on Tuesday nights at 8pm through which we are raisng funds for the village fireworks display. If you have had a bad experience in the past please come and see the changes that we have made, I am sure you will not be disappointed. Due to this I would like anyone reading this to please ignore any comments made previous to October 2008 as we were not here and it would be unfair to judge us on the performance and standards of others. Many thanks for reading this and we hope to see you soon.
