Having just returned from Afghanistan me and my two mates, went for a well deserved pub crawl through the Dorset countryside. Totally by accident we came across The Rose and Crown with its warm, friendly atmosphere, roaring fire, notable absence of TVs showing sport and the warm welcome everyone gets, it’s fair to say "nothing beats a good old traditional pub, beating at the heart of the community"

We arrived at lunchtime and left the following morning, to our delight the pub served great home produced food by a very cheerfull ex Army Chef, great beer (Fox and Firkin) and a B & B at the back of the pub.

All in a great pub, great staff and looking foward to visiting again very soon.

Our Granddaughter was christened yesterday at the church next door and the celebration meal was held in the pub. We were made very welcome and the food was excellent - beautifully presented and plenty for everyone, so different to our Grandson's christening 3 years previously when the landlord was disinterested, there was not enough food for our guests and what was there was uninviting and tasteless. So glad our son and daughter-in-law decided to try once more with the new people (Kevin & Mandy), we will certainly be returning for an evening meal soon.

Kevin & Mandy have, after a difficult 10 months breathed fresh air back into what was, a stale atmosphere and stagnant welcome with a host of events, which have brought back the sense of involvement of the community.

The beer is kept very well with a menu which serves good pub grub, complimented by a Specials Board for that "something different."

Long may it last.

My fiancee and i have recently moved to Longburton and it is a beautiful village. Not only that but a little gem of a pub called the Rose and Crown is in the same village. Seasonal local produce wonderfully cooked by the landlord, landlady and their staff. A warm welcome especially for our little dog with some cracking ales and ciders, Firkin Fox and Stowford press to name a couple. Family run with a great atmosphere and wonderful hosts in Kev and Mandy, i find it very difficult to say anything negative about this little cracker, well worth a visit if you want value for money and a good pint.
