| Located away from the main real ale epicentre of Oakengates. No real ale to be seen, Karaoke etc suggests that this is not one for the good beer enthusiast PoorBeerHater - 2 May 2012 16:09 |

| Called in last night as I'd heard it had reopened, so my report of it's potential demise was incorrect. Tap room with dart board & pool table to the left and a lounge area at the back where they have live music on. It was dead when I went in at about 7 with only 2 others in the bar. The landlord Colin was very friendly, but when I asked him why he didn't stock cask ale he told me that he couldn't sell it here! Given that almost all the other pubs in Oakengates do, I couldn't really buy in to that argument. I pointed out that on-one else sold cask Thwaites in the town so it was a potential niche for him. He just said "I like my smooth! Best of luck then mate as the only area of growth recently has been cask ale and I probably won't bother calling again. By the way I had a pint of Guinness, it was just like Guinness, boring. ROBCamra - 27 Mar 2009 11:08 |
