Visited on 24 November en route to Devon and chose this pub as we use the A303 regularly. The pub is easy to find so getting back on the A303 was no problem either. A cracking country pub and as I wasn't driving I was able to sample each of the ales which were on offer - Plain Ales - Sheep Dip, Hopback - GFB and Milk Street - The Usual. All were in excellent condition. The food was superb as well and cooked on the premises, the usual Sunday roasts were on offer but also with roasted root vegetables rather than just boiled or steamed "greens and carrots". The menus also had some less common choices so I had the ox cheek and red wine casserole which was delicious and good portions too. Very friendly staff and they said that both the beers and food change regularly. Well worth the visit (especially if you're not the driver!) and we will definitely go back!

Tucked away local site in tiny Stockton - and what a find. Stayed locally and wanted to find somewhere to while away an evening, and this didn't disappoint. Cracking ales, well kept, and the service was friendly. As a Wiltshire lad, I have been to a fair few country sites but never had as warm a welcome. Food was stunning and won't hesitate to recommend. Well worth a detour if you are heading up (or down) this way. A gem.

Recently reopened under new ownership. Serving three real ales all from Plain Ales Brewery at the time of my visit. Arty Farty, Inntrigue and Sheep Dip. All three were excellent and my personal favourite was the Inntrigue at 4.2%. Very friendly pub with Mac and Anna, the new owners providing a very friendly welcome along with Laura who used to run the pub. No food available at the moment but the old chef is returning and a menu will be available from mid-September. Well worth a visit.

Nowadays, I much prefer The Hop Inn Old Town, next to the Arts Centre, or The Carter's Rest Wroughton, a short bus-ride from Swindon bus station on the no 49 or no 72. In both these venues, there is a much better selection of beers all in top condition and no grumpy idiot of a landlord swearing at or in front of customers and banging bottles and glasses around. This is something I find rather off-putting and one of the reasons I haven't used the Glue Pot for a while and am unlikely to do so in the future.

I have known a few alcoholics. All the signs seems to be there, bad temper, abruptness.
If that is the case, JC probably shouldn't be working with alcohol.

For some years now, JC has been on medication. He also likes his beer and whiskey. Combined this probably explains the temper tantrums bottle crashing and really foul language customers are often treated to.

Stayed here. Olde Worlde hotel experience. Everything was as you would expect and a decent breakfast.

The pub is perfect - low beams - couple of real ales - Abbot and Speckled Hen. I was hoping for a local speciality. Beer fine. Staff great. Superb location for views across to the cathedral

Called in last Saturday evening about 10 o clock, and the place was dead, about 10 customers. The Wetherspoons pub across the road had customers queuing to get in - something not right. Beer was good, had a variety of places to sit down, could not understand what was wrong - but lack of people means lack of atmosphere which probably then means less customers

Forgot to mention, the garden area has some nice logs that the kids had great fun clambering over. Careful though as it isn't really that safe and one of the seats has a great big nail-head sticking out of it

After visiting a few in the centre, I came here as it had one of the best scores on this site.

Shows that you never can tell.

It was all the things the last reviewer said. With very broken sofas.

Beer was nothing special.

Not worth the walk.

small, dirty, drafty, smelly, cold ini winter - but people love it, never seems to be quiet - ale is ok but nothing out of the ordinary, wait I have it - the ale is cheap! Worth a stop on a crawl as the previous reviewer stated as it is just a pub and doesn't pretend to be anything else.

This pub doesn't look much from the outside. But the small interior is well worth a visit. It has the feel of an Irish bar (not sure if it is). 3 ales were on - Sharps Doom Bar & Hopback Summer Lightning & GFB. Cider was Addlestones. Worth a stop on any Salisbury crawl.

This has just won the CAMRA Pub of the Year award for the area. A little puzzling, since there are so many good contenders in the area that are better appointed, but I suspect that it was the beer alone might have been the deciding issue. CAMRA judges don't always look about and see how shabby a place has become. Certainly worth a visit, but Pub of the Year?

A pub with a little character on the edge of Salisbury city centre. Locals were congregated around the bar, with a cosy small room to the one side, near the gents. Beers were Irving Weel Malc & Downton Quadhop & Dark Delight. Northumberland Snow Star was being pulled through. Sadly I was driving and couldn't take advantage of the ales. Nevertheless, a nice little pub, worth the walk to.

We haven't been here for a few years but the beer choice was excellent including a black beer from Old School Brewery in Carnforth which pleased me no end. Plenty of choice for the paler beer drinkers. Reading the other recent visitors notes it's worth saying that the second pint of Blackboard tasted a lot fresher than the first so maybe there are some issues there that need addressing. Having said that my wife's two beers were fine. The place looks as though it's had a coat of paint since last we were there.

The new landlord seems to have rejuvenated this place again!
It had slipped a bit in the last couple of years tbh, but it's on the up again now after the fefurb!
Range of Arkell's ales, Stowford Press cider, lagers, food looks pretty good, bar-staff friendly & efficient. TV's showing sport in a comfortable lounge type environment, separate restaurant area, playground outside for the kids (weather permitting).
It's the first pub you see on the way into town from the M4.
Good family pub, and yet still worth a visit for us "normal" folk ;)

Busy when I came here on Sunday afternoon - apparently recently refurbished, it was clean and smart. Decent Sunday roast for £9.75. Three ales were on from the Arkells range - I had the Kingsdown and Noel (both 5%) and they very pleasant. They had footy on on two TV's away from the dining area. A good first impression - I am not local to this area but my hosts lived 4 minute walk away and were aware of it's ups and downs.

Lenny's gone, pub's on the slide.
Not too bad yet, but needs getting a grip on quickly.
