Lovely-looking pub which has been very well kept and is deservedly on CAMRA's National Inventory list. Fuller's ales kept reasonably well. Pricey but hey, this is Harrow.

And not before time....lederhosen are the spawn of the devil !
I've seen many a good man take the lederhosen route, and end up in trouble.....or Sudbury.
To drink proper beer, you must wear a decent pair of tartan troos. These "girls" who keep turning up in their lederhosen are a disgrace.
I can't take them seriously.
Oh for the days of the Raj.
23 May 2009 01:55
Due to an altercation last friday night, lederhosen in all forms has been banned. And if I see any antimacassars lying around on chairs they'll be out too.The consumption of onions that have been soaked in vinegar for years is.of course, perfectly normal

Reviews by BITE users:

The Red Lion is currently holding a Celtic beer and cider festival. Went here last night to try the cider selection. The place was fairly busy, but there was still plenty of seating. There were several dogs, but all were well-behaved and caused no offence. Beers on offer for the festival were Purple Moose Dark Side of the Moose, Kelburn Ca'Canny, Coastal Merry Maidens Mild, Breconshire WPA, Atlas Three Sisters, Cairngorm Sheepshaggers, Skinners Betty Stoggs & Cornish Knocker, Salopian Hop Twister, Conway Welsh Pride, Broughton Old Jock, Williams Red & Harviestoun Ptarmigan. The Hop Twister seemed to be going down best. For cider and perry lovers, there was Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon, Haymaker and Two Trees Perry plus Montgomery Old Monty's. All in all, we had a very pleasant evening in the Red Lion, and I would not hesitate to recommend this pub.

This place had been recommended so I popped in before going to Brentford. 8 ales being Derventio Venus, Jack Frost, Ordinary, TEA, Triple ff Pressed Rat and Warthog, Sharp's Cornish Coaster, Sambrook Wandleand Naylor's On Target. Last one was a wonderful hoppy beer. Also have Erdinger and three ciders were listed on the board. A large pub with separate lounge and public bars and a room with a stage at the back of the lounge.

No hesitation in recommending this one.

Went to their panto the other night. What a fantastic night. Great fun. How many other pubs organize and put on their own panto? And the beer is still fabulous (and only £2 a pint on Monday evenings). Have one of Erin's curries - you won't regret it.

Reviews by BITE users:

Seems to be down to four ales. One is Twickenham; recent addition of Brass Monkeys is welcome. But the range does not vary sufficiently and the removal of a stronger beer is a shame.

The pub has a new chef and the food is absolutely fantastic ! Definately worth a visit !
10 Mar 2009 10:14
What sort of a pub is cleaning the beer pipes at 5.15pm on a Friday night and asks punters to wait for 20 minutes for the beer to come back on? If we'd wanted a lager we'd have asked for one. Mabe this was a blip. Might go back sometime to find out or then again...

Reviews by BITE users:

Oh well I guess time has finally been called. Such a shame and the end of era really for drinkers at the Jenny. Thanks Tammy and Ant for all your efforts and such a shame you were banging your head against the proverbial brick wall called 'Enterprise inns' who have done there utmost to get you out.
Enterprise Inns are a property company and not a brewery who do not give a toss for the pub trade, its staff or customers. They have certainly showed their true colours this time.
So long Jenny Lind................its been emotional!
15 May 2009 18:51
Great pub, great beer, super atmosphere - Tammy, Ant and Penny have transformed the pub. What a huge pity Enterprise Inns are doing the dirty on them.

Missed the Rock Gods last week thats twice now, hope they are back soon, love the music in the Jenny!

Reviews by BITE users:

i i have had the pleasure to work with wetherspoon before and have been placed in feltham in the past. every manager who has worked there has tried their level best to give the best level of service and provide quality. why? because its the managers job. thats what they get paid for. when you are constantly up against the type of people that decide to go out to cause trouble or are just unsociable it becomes a hardship. you regulars should be focusing on what yr pub manager is doing for you! i notice yr complaining about 1 guest ale being available yes? five years ago it was " i dont feel safe here" why has yr local spoons manager got to reply on this site?

Reviews by BITE users:

I used to frequent this pub of an evening, especially in winter months when it seemed cosy and welcoming inside. Good ales, nice and quiet generally. However, I went there for lunch today with colleagues and had the worst treatment I've ever had from any establishment. Having waited over an hour for lunch to arrive (being told it would be a few minutes every 5 minutes) I went to the bar to politely request a refund. The barman gave me the refund and the waiter told me food was seconds away. I returned to the table to find the landlord had followed me and ranted to me and my colleagues that the refund meant we weren't getting the food, even though it was now ready! So we had waited one hour for nothing but wholly unwarranted abuse. The venom spewed by the landlord was supported by the Gollum-type waiter who had become equally malicious, now turning to support his master, muttering abuse at us. Please, please do not go to this pub until they get new management.

Fourth ever visit to this pub when Irish played Leicester on Sat. Twice on match days, once before a concert and once just for the beer. Gotta say i've loved it every time and we shall return again & again and look forward to it - see you guys at the start of next season for the double header - keep the Guinness just as you do! You Rude? Obnoxious? Derranged? Nah, not you, just misunderstood - like me!

Reviews by BITE users:

This is a Hall and Woodhouse pub, with the full range on. I had the Hopping Hare which was very good. This is a nice old low-ceilinged pub down Church St, nestling among all the Indian restaurants. The publican was particularly welcoming and friendly. The food was pretty down-to-earth pub fare; my wife had some sausages and mash and I had a tuna mayo sandwich with some chips. Both were OK for what we paid, about £6 each. It’s a decent, ordinary, comfortable pub with no pretentions to grandeur. Definitely worth a return visit.
17 Mar 2009 18:42
Great pub which has stayed traditional. Nice not to have to listen to loud music when I`m having a conversation. I must admit the last time I was in there I took a look at the decor and it could do with some serious updating and I mean serious. Just a good clean of the ancient carpets and maybe a good scrup to get rid of 30 years of nicotine (since the smoking ban it doesn`t smell too good). Good atmosphere though
15 Mar 2009 01:09
Really good pub, good beer, TV screens, rugby paraphernalia - even a signed shirt from my team (Northampton Saints, for whom the guvor was a registered player, apparently!). Top notch. 10/10

oh and Beehave... a proper real ale drinker! You like Pride you are not a proper real ale drinker, it is mass marketed shit designed to be easy to keep which most of the twats they employ can't manage and believe me most of the people that drink it do so because they have heard of it...you may as well have a nice pint of green king IPA
24 May 2009 19:47
drunkintheevening - its fairly simple to meet people in this place, simply tell them you like to smoke the weed, snort the coke, and you are well in
24 May 2009 19:37
Don't know any of the locals here, but there is always a great atmosphere in this pub. Beer is also good and the take outs are far too dangerous.

They have now got the Cask Marque and have been told they are getting a mention in the local CAMRA guide. Poker nights are coming soon and they have a seventies disco planned for Easter. They are getting there. Keep it up boys.

Friendliest pub in Stanwell, good bear, new guest ales making a good addition to the regular ones. New owners working hard to improve the pub, progress being made, still work to be done but their getting there.

As for low ceilings and unfriendly vicars, its an old building so low ceilings go with the territory but there not that low and it must have been another vicar and not our Farther W...

My husband thinks you guys pour the best pint ever!! We flew over from Las Vegas (our home) and he loved the "old english" pub feeling and believes that this is how all American pubs should do it. The next time we fly over we will be visiting again and properly be spending our whole vacation there - he loves the beer! We LOVE the new owners and think they have the pubs best interest at heart. Tej
(a local) is very humorous.

Reviews by BITE users:

Very pleasant two room pub set just off the main high street in Brentford. Has all your Fullers favourites on offer and having sampled the Pride, I can testify to the good quality. Service was prompt, despite it being packed in the run up to the football. The main room has a decent amount of seating, whilst the side room is dominated by a pool table, and has it's own little strech of bar and a couple of large screens.
However, if it's a cheap pint you're after, you'd be best off elsewhere.
28 Mar 2009 22:17
Perfectly pleasant Fullers local down a side turn off the High St. At first it doesn't look too promising as you pass industrial units but don't be fooled. A good range of Fullers ales on offer, including the new Hock, a very drinkable dark mild. I didn't see any guest beer though.
You are very close to the river and Grand Union canal here, hence the series of steps up to the entrance as a precaution against flooding.
Posters on the wall inside indicate the pub is an occasional music venue.
21 Mar 2009 07:48
The Brewery Tap is a fine small traditional pub, hidden away off the High Street close to the Grand Union canal.

Offers jazz several evenings a week, including weekends.

Currently offering Ossett Black Bull as a guest beer, following Fullers trading tie-up with that brewery, presumably.

Worth seeking out, but yes, its pricey, I'm afraid

Good pub with a speciality in real ales, food, and it is now the official inspiration for the Flying Swan in Robert Rankin's novels.
4 Mar 2009 07:49
Enjoyable pint of Downtons Chimera IPA - 6.8% ABV - yesterday afternoon.

Its priced at £ 3.30 per pint, which, when you consider that several of the Fullers tenanted pubs in Brentford sell London Pride at £ 3.20, represents good value.

The refurbishment has taken away a bit of the character of the pub, but the Magpie and Crown is still THE pub in Brentford in my book.
16 Feb 2009 13:33
Was convinced I'd reviewed this place but obviously not. Superb pub, always four excellent ales. Didn't note them all down but I had Castle Rock Blackbird which was a tasty porter. Liefmanns Kriek also available along with a Weisse and Paulaner Munchen.

A must visit if you are here for a match.

Was looking for a pub to watch the rugby on Saturday. This pub was recomended to me by some people I met on the 65 bus from Richmond. The game was being shown on all screens and the place was packed. Brilliant atmosphere during the match and great service eventhough the place was packed. It got better as the evening went on with live music. Am new to area so its great to have a decent traditional pub to go to. Will be back:

Came over to watch the London-Irish V Leinster game last month. This pub was down the road from the Travel Lodge where we stayed. After the game we headed down for the night. Made feel very welcome, very good craic with live music all night. Big selection of beers, Heineken wouldn't go astray though. Very witty barman, Patrick i think. Irish bar through and through, highly recommended!!
10 Feb 2009 20:25
been in this pub a good few times, it looks a lot better now than what it used to be. seems its under new management the guy running it seems lovely and friendly and the staff working there are really nice and welcoming. not that I drink the beers or bitters but the wide range of drinks are brilliant and im glad to see they are selling wine by the bottle now the manager has certainly got it right. The decking out the back was a great idea and especially the heater for the smokers. The food there is also really good and reasonable chef seems very friendly. Theres been a lot of improvements thats occured in this pub over the last year.

Good local pub, with reasonably priced food. Good range of beers (almost all Greene King products)
20 Mar 2009 12:54
I popped in here with a couple of mates last Saturday for the first time in quite a while.

Have to say things have improved a fair bit since December. There are more beers on offer and the atmosphere feels more pleasant.

I'll be back !
13 Mar 2009 14:33
For a Greene King pub they had a decent range of ales on – GKIPA, Abott Ale, Ruddles County, Westgate Flanker’s Tackle and Hare Raiser. I had the Hare Raiser, which was fine, even if it did have something of the Greene King taste about it though. What I liked is that the landlady (?) gave me a taste of both the Flanker’s Tackle and the Hare Raiser before I bought a pint.

This is a real TARDIS of a pub. It has a narrow front, which opens up inside to a fairly large pub. But it’s got several nooks and crannies off to the sides, is comfortably furnished, and with a bit of a patio at the back for smokers. It’s right by the Teddington footbridge over the river, so has a steady stream of pedestrians and cyclists passing by, although most seem to use the Anglers next door which was much busier during my visit on Saturday afternoon. Anyway, a warm and comfortable pub, with friendly service and pretty good ale is good enough for me. I rather like this pub, and will certainly return.

We used to pop into this locals pub for a pint or two before walking along to the Riverside Indian restaurant for a curry. We still do pop in, but since trying the excellent Seafood Paella produced by the Cuban chef, we haven't been along the road for a curry for well over a year now. The Seafood Paella is wonderful, well seasoned, freshly cooked, and packed with mussels, squid, prawns, peppers, chillies and if you're lucky, a linguistine on top. The ales are also usually on good form with varying guest appearances. Must try the restaurant.

The best Sunday lunch in the area. £11.95p for 2 amazing courses. restaurant nicely furnished, staff courteous and polite and the food top notch. Dont go in if your not hungry as the portions are big. Well done to all the staff, our party of 5 at 2.30pm 25/01/09 had a lovely time
26 Jan 2009 14:57
I’ve been before, & somehow always expect a slightly more adventurous selection of beers here, ystdy offered Brakspear, courage, Bombardier, Summer Lightning (£3.10). I like the pub tho, central horseshoe bar faces entrance, old photos on walls of river & locale, pictures (with thanks) of guidedogs which the pub evidently sponsored, splendid action shot from the ’70 cup final (Chelsea2 Leeds2), bar billiard table to the left and, beyond, a restaurant area to the rear which, if memory serves from prev visit, offers a decent menu. Not sure about prev comment on food price - I heard someone in Railway Bell mention they had a fresh salmon sarnie here for £2.20? Would be enhanced by offering a rotating micro.
