PWilkins, your comment about the gentleman in the wheelchair is a little ripe coming from you! The last time I was in this pub you were leaning up at the bar telling your "dirty stories", and elbowing a young woman in the face several times to "prove a point". When both myself and the Manchester City fan you mentioned attempted to point out that your behaviour was unacceptable, you threatened to "knock us out with a plank of wood" and proceeded to spit all over the floor and splash IPA everywhere. If anyone needs to learn some manners it is you! Even after the bar staff had refused to serve you, you left saying you were going to "come back with your Renault and run us all over". I think this pub is better off without your attitude, PWilkins.

Still a good boozer, a little emptier these day's. Decent quality ale and choice. The Pratt in the wheelchair with the Man City crap on needs to learn some manners!

The Evening Star, what can I say ?

This was pub number 4 and I certainly saved the best for last. I have been told on numerous occasions that this is a must visit but had never been here until now.

As previously mentioned on this site this is the Dark Star tap, with their full range plus some very decent guest ales.

I decided to spend a bit of time here and work my way through some ales I’d never had before. These were Brighton Bier Thirty Three Black @ 3.3%, Dark Star @ Revelation @ 5.7% and my personal favourite Tiny Rebel’s Dirty Stop Out @ 5.0%.

Busy with real drinkers as its a haven and a must tick in Brighton, it’s now firmly on my list and will visit every time I’m in Brighton now.

Music playing at a decent level. There’s also a good range of old bottles of beer on the shelves about the seating areas.

All in all this is a cracking pub and another 10/10 from me.

Busy Fullers pub in an area which has many pubs and as others have said this does slightly count against it, though it's not their fault. A decent range of Fullers and the former Gales beers (this used to be a Gales pub before Fullers took that brewery over).

One of my favourite pubs in Brighton. Consistently very good beer, decent service, and a nice unpretentious crowd.

Pub number 2 literally behind North Laine is the rather surprising Fullers tied Basketmakers.

From the moment I enter it hits me how loud the pub is, there is so much chatter going on among the packed crowd but not only chatter a lot of laughter...its only Wednesday afternoon!

8 pumps on the bar with most of them offerings from the Fullers family. I went for a pint of George Gales Spring Sprinter, perfectly served and kept.

Very good service from the barman who everyone seems to know, its like Cheers!

2 rooms but only 1 entrance with the bar stretching between both rooms.

The walls are plastered with signs, posters, beer mats, tins, bank notes, coins etc all of which are vintage.

I was not prepared for a pub like this on my short tour of Brighton pubs but I love it. What an absolute gem.

Visit now but only post if you like it.

10/10

Lovely corner pub in Kemptown if very bijou - seats were at a premium of an afternoon so Lord knows what it's like of an evening. Outstandingly kept ales and the Kemptown Brewery is on site. Newspaper cuttings dating back to the Watergate affair provide extra colour.

Excellent little pub and my greyhound really like the big bonio biscuits. Good beer and great atmosphere.

Reinvented tradition in a little corner pub now a bright colour so it is visible from space. Locally brewed beer and a convivial atmosphere.

Accurate. All the old biddies want is to sell standard (sub) food to families. Better profit margin. Avoid.

Agree with last post. Was in there at lunchtime today,

One barmaid said 'with you in a minute' - then vanished for a chat...

Seems to be run by two 50/60 year old ladies - who live in a different world. They think customers are invisible, and - if you complain about being ignored - abuse is common.

Much better food, service and hygiene standards in nearby establishments. Bad service - by staff with attitudes. And just waiting for their shift to end.

Popped in yesterday, the new owners have done an excellent job, will certainly start using The Albion (it's not called The Royal Albion anymore).

Opening this weekend with new ownership, expecting a big improvement.

Popped in on Thurs 17th June 2014 to see a friends band play unplugged. The pub was clean, they have renovated the back room which has not been open to the public in years and now looks bright and fresh.
The staff were young, fun and friendly and drink prices were on par with others in the area. We didn't order food so cannot comment on that but the toilets were clean with soap and hand towels available in the gents.
The unplugged evening with Arivmia and Ivy King was fantastic I will definitely come to the next ones.
They seem to be moving in the right direction, hope they can shake the stigma from the earlier reviews.

Intriguing pub that is more like a shop without a traditional bar as such - bringing back the old serving hatch style of service cf. the Doctors Orders in Nottingham which has a very similar layout. An ever changing range of beers and knowledgeable people working there. Not enough seats - I had to perch - but this is testimony to its growing popularity. Near enough to Hove station that it should get passing trade as well.

after going to Brighton to visit family we were recommended to visit the Watchmakers Arms. We did this on Friday evening and enjoyed it immensely, totally different to our usual haunts up North, a real pity we dont have anything similar. will definitely visit again as the owners made us feel very welcome and at home! well done to you all for creating such a good atmosphere!

Lovely pub with a lovely atmosphere. Really friendly staff that seem to be enjoying the whole experience. I have visited a few times since it's opening a couple of weeks ago, and am thoroughly impressed with the progress that they have made.

As a slightly younger customer, it has been nice to introduce friends to the wonder that is ale, and socialise with people of all ages. On a standard night out, it is unusual to find myself in genuine conversation with strangers, and it makes a welcome change.

In reply to the previous comment, it seems slightly ridiculous to suggest that TWA has turned into a 'drinking den' for the owners' friends to commandeer as their own. The whole purpose of a micro pub is to promote conversation and make new friends. Maybe it's not so ridiculous that you struggled to do so.

All in all, great pub, great beer and a fun evening.
