This is actually The Barley Mow, not the Barley...

A pleasant enough pub that looks as though it may have recently had a makeover. There is rather a preponderance of gastro-pub green paint, although it doesnt appear to fall in to that particular genre.

Its essentially a single room affair, although it is partitioned off to an extent to create a couple of separate areas. The bar has wooden flooring and theres a small pub grub menu chalked up on a board next to the bar. The landlord seemed friendly enough, and was happy to do food even though I dont think it was their normal serving time.

There is a small courtyard at the back which is quite sheltered by the tall buildings nearby. Its a reasonably attractive spot, with chippings stuck to the floor, a couple of pot plants and a small awning to keep the rain off.

Beers on this occasion were 6X, Old Speckled Hen and Otter Ale. Ciders were Thatchers Gold, Addlestones and Gaymers Pear.

Visited this pub after a not very successful pub walk, and found a very pleasant venue. Friendly locals (albeit rather inebriated by 9pm!), friendly service, and a very well kept pint of Wadsworth's 6X. Will definately be coming back :)

Have been here a few times and have been impressed. Thatchers and Bombadier were well kept.

Oh my goodness! Love this pub, but went to the pub quiz on Sunday night... Not for the fainthearted! There were probably about 180 questions and no time in between! (There is a 1/2 time break, but I needed to have a lie down by then). On top of the constant questions, you have to cope with the quizmaster pronouncing things a bit strangly (e.g. "animoils" for "animals" etc.) I had tears running down my face and had the funniest night in a long time...

Nice pub, nice beer but the best bit is the quiz on a Sunday night - quite difficult and lots of fun as well. Gareth, the regular quiz master is a star, very much a showman, looks just like Hugh Grant, and even sounds like him although he is Welsh! Definately recommended!

Lovely place to spend a few hours, nicely decorated inside, good Cider (stoford press if i do remember correct), and JENGA! They do what sounds like very nice food as well, were only in for a drink though will have to go back- maybe stroll down Great Pultney street for their beer & sandwich for 4(ish- cant remember quite for some reason) offer one lunchtime. 9/10.

A gem of a boozer! Great beer, good food, cordial hosts, friendly atmosphere with a few somewhat eccentric characters!
Get there on a Sunday evening to test your grey matter and meet the Quiz Night Challenge compered by Gareth, who looks not dissimilar to Hugh Grant and is just as entertaining! This is not for the faint-hearted but certainly out of the left-field as far as most quiz nights are run, so get there early to grab a table!

Was in there for the quiz last Sunday for the first time. Very impressive. Nice boozer and the quiz was first class. Could possibly improve on the choice of lager.
