Came here once for our (Railway B'hurst) annual celebration dinner. Excellent meal, I had snails in garlic sauce.

We visited this pub after staying away because of the previous owners and we were pleasantly surprised with the new owner and his friendly staff. We were made to feel very welcome even during their busiest time of the day on the Sunday lunchtime that we vistited. The waitress that served us was very attentive to our needs and even the staff clearing the tables were cheerful and chatty and took the time to talk to us. The food was well presented , delicious and hot and very reasonably priced. Well done to all involved and lets hope you carry on the way you have started and we will definately be back for more.

Under new management. Again! At least you can get a pint of the Sussex ale now, but I have to say the metal tables and chairs outsied are a bit of a turnoff.
Didn't try the food this time, but will definitely be back to try that new menu.

I have just returned from sunday lunch with my mum at the blacksmith arms... we both went for the roast chicken at no point were we made aware that it was on the bone, my mum had lovely looking roast potatoes which seemed to have missed my plate as i had none. next up was dessert warm chocolate fudge cake nope when it arrived it was cold...Also the table was sticky :0( the staff seemed very rushed. On paying our bill-which was at first over charged we were asked was everything ok when we stated our fudge cake was cold the lady simply replied well that wasnt my fault this time.....Sorry will not be eating here again

I see that the Blacksmiths Arms had some poor reviews under its previous management. I am very happy to restore the balance for the new owners who have very recently taken over.
Visited today with my wife, and we had a super lunch in their restaurant. Tasty food - and plenty of it too. The service was fine and friendly. And altogether very good value . Will be happy to recommend anyone, and hope to return ourselves soon.

Not sure why there are negative comments - I take th family there whenever they visit, which means that we take a whole range of ages from 1yrs to 91yrs and we have always been happy with our visits. Food, drinks and service are always great.

Stopped here for a pint last weekend and ordered a pint of fosters. When it arrived I went out to the beer garden, took a slurp and it was warm.
I took it back inside to complain and the owner informed me that there is nothing wrong with any of the draught beers, except that the cooler doesnt work, like that was acceptable.

I was amazed at his response and which was a complete contradiction in itself. Does he really think that anyone drinking there might actually think a warm pint of lager is acceptable?

If the lager is warm then of course theres something wrong with it! I wasnt satisfied with his response so offered to give me my money back but I said I would prefer a bottle of lager from the fridge (which was working - hooray!).
The barman then went on to quibble with me over the extra 5 pence it costs for a bottle which I would not pay on principle. Not my fault your cooling system doesnt work!

Above all Im surprised the owner of this place seriously thinks its OK to serve warm pints of lager. I wont be returning.

on a recent trip to worthing we stopped at the blacksmiths arms for lunch, upon entering we were met with a very warm welcome by both the manager and the landlady,we were offered a wide range of drinks to choose from and shown 2 menus that were in operation,we decided to go for the carvery menu which seemed quiet nice, the manager showed us to our table and explained the menu,a very polite young waitress then came and took our order and we then waited for our food,,the restaurant was beautifuly decorated and was very clean and tidy, but then the problems startted,,,after we placed our order a fairly rough looking chef or cook entered the restaurant and passed a comment to the terms of,do we have to get all the fat ones in here to eat,we were going to leave but decided to stay as we were hungry, when the chef came out to serve the carvery he was rough looking covered in tattoos and very unfriendly unlike the other members of staff,
the food was excellent and the service and friendliness from the landlady, manager and waitress was top class but our stop was tainted by the rude chef and his attitude, even after these comments we will stop in again as we travel that stretch of road every week, but we will make our dissatisfaction with the chef known,

in reference to the comments made about the Blacksmiths Arms in Janurary by Peaches 123,the comments are totaly in-accurate in reference to the incident in question at our restaurant, the main issue the people had was that we would not give a concession for the kids meals before they ordered,we are a carvery based operation therefore when children come to the carvery we charge for the size of the portion as in the past we have given concessions and people have loaded the plates up with double the portions and we have lost out on not just the money factor but also the poential extra custom, the lady never explained that she had 4 kids coming there fore we did not know we had to accomadate for children and also a gluton free meal aswell,i am in the business for over 20 years and have never had such negative feed back in my life, the lady never asked for chips, she never said she had 4 children or a gluton problem therefore how she can complain is beyond me,we feed an average of 160 people on a sunday lunch ranging from children to Oap,and most of our business is repeat business,i challenge anyone to come and sample not just our menu but also our hospitality and homely set up,

yours truly

Having read a recent review, I had some trepidation about dining at the Blacksmiths Arms but, as it transpired, this was totally unfounded. After a pleasant reception, we had a very enjoyable meal accompanied by an off-wine list Merlot that was recommended to us.

The restaurant menu is centred on a carvery presentation, with further options including vegetarian if a carvery is not to your particular liking. My partner selected Irish beef and I opted for the pork, both were premium cuts, well cooked and presented with roast potatoes and a self-selection array of vegetables (within which was a subtle use of herbs that do not immediately present themselves but come through slowly).

In summary, if you want chips with everything and screaming children running amok, then the Blacksmiths Arms is certainly not for you; but, you prefer refined dining in an undisturbed environment of quiet tranquillity that allows one to savour the food then I would certainly recommend that you give them a try.

We visited this pub with our 2 young children in Jan 2009 and met up with a couple also with two children. We meet here annually. We had booked in advance and explained on the phone who was in our party and they did not tell us they do not cater for children so we were really surprised and disappointed to find out that they didn't do a childrens menu or half portions!!! They want a 4 year old boy to have and pay for an adult meal!!!They dont let you have an extra plate either for you to give your child any of your meal (not even for the baby!!).They only offer a carvery and couple of fish dishes since been taken over by new management prior to Christmas. We are a vegetarian family (my husband and children do eat fish)The veggie option contained gluten which I cant eat as i am a coeliac ( everything has to be gluten free) so I asked for chips, which i'd seen on the menu, and veggies from the carvery instead. I was told I couldn't have the chips unless I ordered a steak despite the fact that many plates of chips kept walking past us to other luckier diners. Apparently as the chief is a "celebrity"?? he wont do such a thing.Surely a celebrity chef has more to his reportoire than meat and two veg!!The children were also not allowed any chips!!!!!The chef seemed really arrogant. He only wants older people with no children who just want meat. They made us feel very unwelcome and didn't even try to offer any flexibility with the menu or alternative option. I would never visit this pub again despite the lovely village location. All in all an unpleasant experience......

Excellent roast potatoes! Otherwise the food was fine and the service unexceptional - but I have had worse. The beer - Gales - was well kept and for a drinking pub this is a good place, but somehow the everything to do with the eating could just be a little better. Very characterful and full of history. You could do a lot worse, but there are better.....

Probably more of a lager and ale pub than anything else - the missus suffered two different glasses of dreadful wine on our visit, and my Guinness was decidedly ropey.

The inside of this pub smells a bit (smoke and stale lager), but shows some substantial history. The structure of the building imposes some very low beams in the front bar, thoughtfully cushioned for the imprudent. Mind yer bonce sir!
