Not a good atmosphere in here on a pre bank holiday Sunday evening. Vaguely threatening.

too loud, but friendly landlord, and always busy.
|
Much better than the other pubs in the area. They did a bit of a botched job on the decorating though, looks like Mr Argos came to lay down the flooring. Not sure about the fabrics used either.

One of the best pubs in Wood Green. Good DJ on a Friday but its full of students.
|
Used to be a regular in here but stayed away for a while when it was going down the pan. A recent visit was heartening as the pub looks so much better and the staff and customers seem to be friendly like in the old days. Having said that, when the footie match started, the place flooded with some really dodgy looking characters who seemed more intent on watching each other rather than the footie - very interesting to say the least.

Guinness is superb, was in here yesterday afternoon
|
Just popped in for Sunday lunch. Food was pretty decent - for pub fare - and reasonably priced. No real ale, unfortunately, had to make do with Guinness. Bar staff seemed friendly. I've been in a lot worse places than this, but don't think I will be rushing to come back.

Great staff, great entertainment, great beer, spirits etc at decent prices, BRILLIANT food, clean toilets, air conditioning, professionaly managed. Surrounding pubs could learn a thing or two from here.

I love this pub. Everyone who works there are great. Its gotta be the only pub in wood green where some members of the barstaff (steve and babs I'm talking to you) get up on tables and dance. It's true!!! Fri and sat nights are amazing, as always, with the resident dj Howard marks. (just don't ask for any britney spears or R'n'B) Monday nights are such a laugh with Joey and Kitch getting people up to show off their talents for open mic night. Thursdays are wikid as Mandy encourages people to get up and sing (mandy is sooo cool) and the boss, Steve, is such a nice guy. He's really turned the pub around. You feel so welcome and the food during the week is unbelieveable Christina really knows how to cook. If you want a great night out anytime of the week and you're stuck in wood green, go to the anglers. Its like a real life cheers I promise you.

It is much better since the refit. There's a friendly atmosphere and it's clean (for a pub). Howard's DJing is great and there's games machines to play. The staff are great and you never wait long to be served.
|
I love this pub, it is my local even though i live in Enfield!! The staff are friendly, the regulars are friendly and it has a great atmosphere. There is the world cup being shown. Two fruit machines, a quiz machine, two pool tables and a jukebox. It has everything you could wish. plus several bunny rabbits in the beer garden!!
The evenings are great too. Mondays are fabulous for students as it has an open mike night and thursdays has karaoke. Again another fun night. Friday's has a rock and metal night, where Howard is brilliant and plays requests. If you love rock and metal...its the place to be. To top it off, Saturday's has Howard again, where he plays anything you wish, with a great selection of music.
Basically, if your up for a laugh, this is the pub to go.

Went there again on Friday. Very very nice, efficient and friendly staff, very clean, a pub you can breath in! Although i am a smoker, i hate smoke filled pubs. Anglers is very roomy with air conditioning. No silly little people wanting to rip your head off after sinking 3 pints!!. People of all ages there who know how to have a great night without causing trouble. This pub is extremely well managed, and also has polite door staff who keep the idiots out. I've highly recommended it to my friends. Mini-cab station directly opposite, which is handy! I can see it fast becomming my local!...By far, the best pub in Wood Green. Dont just take my word for it, go check it out!

I love the Jolly Anglers! Late license, good door staff (keeping the teenagers from the Nelson out) and nice atmosphere. They play some really good music and the bar staff are always friendly. Good mix of people in there so you never get bored.
|
great little pub, love the karaoke wiv joey he is a great guy.
|
It's been done up and in alot more modern style, but retains all that was good about the Anglers. The staff are efficient and the Guinness is a blinding pint. Back to being the best pub in the Area well done
|
A nice little "traditional" pub, tucked away.
|
Been to this pub a few times since the new management has taken over, it is a really nice place to be and has a great atomosphere. The staff are really friendly, and the prices are quite resonable too.
The best nights for me have to be thursdays and friday with howard mark, it brings in a great crowd and is a very lively atmosphere.
I got to say I have tried a few boozers in woodgreen, and this by far has to be my favorite, great team behind the bar, and it is true the baby girl is really sweet, worth going down just for her.

The Jolly Anglers is under new management from 22.11.2005 the new owners are great. Theres a good service with a smile from the bar staff. The new owners have great plans for our pub and sometime in januray 06 they have a refurb planned for the pub. They are offering great entertainment on thursdays with karaoke 8pm till late ,friday nights rock with howard mark 8pm till 1am,saturday, howard with a mixture of music 8pm till 1am.Pop in and meet the new family and their baby daughter she is sweet.
|
A genuine contender for smokiest pub in Britain. Shame really as quite a nice traditional boozer other than that and they tend to make an effort to provied good entertainment.
|
the anglers is a good pub, the karaoke host on a thursday is a really nice bloke.

As an outsider on his way to a Pixie's gig at Ally Pally, I popped in for a quick pint, armed with previous comments. It must be said, there is not a great choice of pubs in the area and the Anglers is only non-chain pub that looked like a typical tradional pub that I found. No airs and graces here. Firstly, I was served quickly and found the prices very reasonable for a London pub (Strongbow £2.20). The pub is spacious with an inobtrusive pool table and dart board. Several seats outside in the beer garden (or beer patio may be a better description). On the downside, no real ales and as for the decor, if it has been recently done up, it hardly showed - a big roll of ceiling paper was hanging down above my head. There appears to be a lot of entertainment laid on of you like the karaoke / DJ sort of night (I don't) and a couple of TV's for sport.
In a nutshell, a straightforward traditional boozer that has probably seen better days but I have been in far worse pubs than this. Worth a quick pint if in the area but the Mrs will probably prefer the shops!
|
yes, they are trying but they still have a way to go. We tried it out again a couple of weeks ago (having been regulars in Caroline's days). We were put off by the mouthy fat bald guy throwing his weight around and acting as if he owned the pub. Quite a few council types getting drunk and keeping an eye on their shopping trollies - still very downmarket.... sad when you think of how it used to be
|
Been here a couple of times great fun nice people drink a bit pricey compared to such likes as goose and wetherspoons but well worth it herd they had a few teething troubles but its up and coming watch this space its gonna get bigger and better.
|
It's back!!!! I slated what this pub had become, on this very site about a year ago. i have been drinking in here since about 93. and it had down hill terribly. But with a new governor, who knows what a real pub should be, and a lick of paint! The future looks bright! I have started drinking in here again!Keep it up steve well done!!!
|
This was my local for years. I was a member of 'wan*ers corner' along with Phil, Snob, Matt, Mark...... and everyone else. Once Caroline left and the new people took over it turned into a real dive. I read that it's been done up and is trying to attract it's old customers back. Well I might just give it a go.
|
Refurb has been completed, new management are in, and the anglers is back and better than ever. A new coat of paint and a cleaned carpet have really got rid of the scummy air that this place had, without destroying its 'local boozer' character. Howard is back every friday to DJ the rock night and, in addition to this, there are now late licenses on Thursday and Saturday (as there used to be many moons ago). Thursday is now Karaoke night, and Saturday has a fairly laid back drinking atmosphere. Prices have gone up a wee bit which is a shame, but you won't find a nicer atmosphere in any wood green pub. Come on down!
|
This pub on a Friday night, the rock night, is amazing. It is so friendly, lively and packed, and is truly a good night. Newcomers are treated like regulars as everyone talks to everyone, and it has been a regular fixture for me for about the last year. It is getting refurbed in 2 wks, so the rock night may come to an end, so if you read this, make sure you get down there on good Friday, for an absolute truly great night. I'll see you there.

The Jolly Anglers on Station Rd used to be my regular pub when i was a student at Middx Uni. You knew that you could get a cheap pint, meet up with your mates for a few games of pool and get a garaunteed invite to a party. But since they closed down the Quicksilver Place campus in Wood Green, the pub has gone a bit downhill. I popped in there recently on a friday evening for a quick pint and i was suprised at how quite it was. Now i drink in the Nelson around the corner.
|
i used to go there every friday but in the last year or so i havent bothered going there because there is no where to sit or even move, you can't talk to any one cos they can't hear you and having to pay to get into a small local pub is taking it abit to far, o and the bouncers are dicks. i hope one day it will turn back to how it used to be.

Used to be a brilliant 'local'. Fallen victim to the 'we must attract youngsters' trend which has tidal waved through Britain's towns and cities.

hi i've been to the jolly anglers a couple of times now and i find it very impressive. the music is very good and i enjoy it as do my friends.

The Anglers can be a bit hit and miss but any night that howard marks, god bless him, is DJing is always good. They just lost their saturday late licence so no more bouncers or loud music till Sunday. Cheap beer, friendly staff and close to the station without being packed with winos. The Anglers always seems to be more loved by people who left the area but I would still reccomend it. 7/10 rating.

Very, very, very, very average. The only thing to make it stand out is the late licence on Fridays, which is coupled with cheap drinks (no real ale, Worthingtons creamflow and Guinness) and a very youthful clientele. It's a good place if you like getting drunk in a pub and jumping around to loud music at the same time.

I'll feel saddened and disgusted when i go in here now! this was my local for 11years! And up until about a year ago was by far the best pub in N22! its dirty and shabby beyond believe. I work shifts and used to pop in there after work, bout 10:101 just for a couple befor going home. Now i have to pay£3 for doing so, on a fri&sat night.A decent local has died!!

WOW!!! The comment dated 10th April is possibly a little bit strong... Yes it does have doormen on the door on a Friday Saturday night and by the way it does not have 2 it has 4. The staff are very hard working and only have a drink after work.(I know that because I have had a drink with them on a few occasions.)The place is only dirty in the public areas and I know that the lines are cleaned ever week by the trainee bar supervisor. The pub has the concept that everything is under £2.00,so as you can imagine some of the punters are not the type who you would take home to meet the family.Lets give the new manageress time to make her mark on the place. However it does need a major referb and not just a lick of paint,, it is very grubby, and if you want to have a VERY quick pint and you do not have a lot of money in you pocket, walk another 50 yards along the path and go to the Goose. My rating 2/3.

I'm suggesting this pub as this is one to definitely avoid. It WAS a great little pub, student-based as it's right next to the halls of residence. It used to have a friendly atmosphere - and barbeques in the garden in the summer. A recent visit proved to be a bit of a shock. It's changed hands, has 2 bouncers on the door now and is a victim of steep decline. The barmaid who, eventually served us, seemed to be under the influence of who knows what, the whole place was unbelievably filthy. The carpet was completely black and sticky. We ended up dumping our pints after one mouthful thinking if it's this bad to the eye, god knows when they last cleaned their pipes - this is one to definitely avoid. Shame that the new manager could ruin what was once a fantastic little pub where we used to enjoy Sunday afternoons watching the footie. Rating should be -10!
