The Fulford Arms, Fulford

We visited this pub which was just across the road from our holiday cottage on a Tuesday evening when they had a quiz night. It's not a huge pub and seems to attract a younger crowd (although the quiz night may have been the reason for this). During a break in the quiz proceedings, everyone was welcome to help themselves to free bread, bacon and scrambled egg - never seen that before in a pub but nearly everyone dived in! (Maybe it's a Northern thing)?

The lone barmaid was very friendly. We had a great evening here. Apparently they have 2 new chefs starting in May so if we return to York, we'll definitely check it out again. The Real Ale loyalty card scheme is a good idea.

The Bay Horse, Fulford

Whilst on a short break to York we discovered the Bay Horse just down the road from where we were staying. we were looking for a nice pub with home cooked food and this certainly didn't disappoint. It's a lovely little pub. The food was very reasonable priced, extremely tasty, huge portions and well worth the visit. The barmaid was lovely, very friendly and nothing would have been too much trouble for her. Highly recommended on every level.
Well done Bay Horse!

The Golden Fleece, York

Definitely a pub for tourists who believe in the hauntings. We found it okay as a drinking pub but the food was awful and the barmaid became rather surly when we dared to point this out. For a pub that boasts 4 chefs including one specialising in vegetarian food, it's truly disappointing.
