WENT TO THE BLACK HORSE LAST NIGHT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YEASR AS THE NEW PEOPLE RUNNING IT HAD BEEN RECCOMMENDED. ENJOYED glutenfree FISH AND CHIPS AT A RESTAURANT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 8 YEARS. THE WELCOME WAS FRIENDLY , THE SERVICE ATTENTIVE AND PROFESSIONAL, THE FOOD REALLY GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY AND A LOT OF glutenfree OPTIONS. TAKING FRIENDS THERE ON FRIDAY!

Having had a negative experience at The Bridge Inn, Horton earlier in the evening we went over to this pub and met with a lovely welcome and hassle free evening. The food was excellent, the Landlord, Landlady and waitress superb and relaxed. Definite place for us to call too again especially when camping at Blackland Lakes camping site near Calne. A*'s all round!

Now under new mangement and doing well.
Three handpumps. One 6X one Hobgoblin and one guest....Bath Gem coming up.
Food at a very good standard.
Back on the list of good local pubs.
If eating you will probably need to book.
No bands now just good food, beer and locals.

Tip do not go on an evening they have a live band. I went on Sat night 02/08/2009 - was really disappointed - had live band, and the sound level was to loud, bar service was very slow, think might be due to the fact that the bar staff could not hear the orders due to the music being so loud in such a small pub. Think this pub has changed owners in the last year. This is a real shame as this pub use to be a really nice pub....lets hope it goes back to being a good pub like before, very, very soon.

After being ignored in the Red Lion, Avebury, my wife and I resolved to stop at the first pub we came to. The druids must have been smiling that day. Airy comfortable bar, excellent food and ale. Not sure if I really needed the curly fries with my ham ciabatta (especially as it was a very generous size to start off with) but Mrs Reverendbaz was very impressed with the fresh strawberries. Definitely coming back and happy to recommend.
