As a member of CAMRA I visit a fair few pubs and the Victoria has always given me a good time. They are a Wadsworth Pub and always have five good ales on tap (IPA and 6X are always present), they also have a great home made food range (amazing Mixed Grill!). I make a point of trying to attend their Monday Pub Quizes as well. They are also a dog friendly pub.

The Victoria is a long standing entry in the GBG, so made a point of seeking it out on a recent crawl around Westbury. My overwhelming sense when leaving was that it could be a lot better. As a Wadworth pub, you get the range of their mediocre beers, and the one we tried - Strong in the Arm - was served flat and, in my opinion, far too cold. I believe that they usually have at least one guest but the one on when we visited was 'Butcombe'., not particularly adventurous! Inoffensive, nice enough interior, BUT beer could have been better and, with this in mind, I'm not sure if we will be back.

Nothing to do with a pub, someone who enjoys going to the pub, and enjoys the vic for its good ale and beer

Blackthorn is a respected and fair Bristol area pub reviewer.
He makes fair points wherever he goes.
You are a "reactor" who will never post again.
You're probably something to do with the landlords etc.
You should learn from his advice.
I will visit soon.
Until then I rest my case, but expect little in his judgement to be incorrect.

Mr or rs Blackthorn, though I am surprised about their being no draught cider at the vic, you do not go to the pub for the lager. Its an ale and food house.

As for english lager, didn't know we produced any, unless you call that sorry excuse of a pisswater product carling a decent lager.the

And yes I like vic as somewhere to go for a quiet relaxing good quality englih pint of ale.

You feel like you've stepped back in time when you go in to this pub, I can't imagine it's changed much in 20 years. That's not to say it looks tatty, it just seems a rather dated layout somehow.
There's a small bar at an angle in the front bar, and some interesting looking food on the menu. Three Wadworth's beers on tap, plus a couple of guests, inc. Butcombe. Unbelievably though, there's no draft cider. True, there were about half a dozen in bottles to choose from, but if I want to drink bottled cider I can buy it in the supermarket at half the price. I come to the pub to get a nice pint on draft. This again points to the time warp that the pub is in - 20 years ago you did find the odd pub that didn't sell cider, but not these days with it's massive increase in popularity. The fact that thet had three lagers on tap, and none of them English ones at that, makes it even worse.

Maybe not quite as good as it was pre Wadworths 20 years back when the beer range was superb including Adnams Broadside & Tanglefoot etc, etc but still not a bad place at all. Very welcoming staff, quick service and a pleasent atmosphere to enjoy a decent pint. Nice garden to the side too. Can be difficult to park close by at times.

A cracking little local that has all the picturesque charm of a village hostelry, but that certain slickness that one sees of a more urban establishment.
Very friendly licensee, food looked good (well-priced steak fillet at under a tenner, though didn't sample), and most significantly, a full and well-conditioned range of Wadworth beers. The Bishop's Tipple was in exceptional form on draught, notwithstanding it not being the beer we all remember.
This is a tucked away, but utterly worthwhile divertion if swanning about W-o-T.
I take the point about decor though; it is tidy and clean, but the '70s/'80s (generous?!) burgundy upholstery and slightly overbearing sub-dado-rail tartan (yes, tartan!) wallpaper has perhaps run its course. A subtle makeover would make the Victoria realise its full potential.

Great little pub with friendly landlord, good beer and nice atmosphere. One minor criticism is that it could do with some minor redecoration (not gutting it but just tidying up).

This is a Proper Pub. Good real ale (Cask Marque approved) and very friendly, with a wide range of patrons. No loud music, unless the landlord's band is playing - and that's well worh a listen unless Graham is singing

The best pub in Westbury on Trym! Friendly staff and drinkers, great pizza's and dog friendly. Lovely beer (especially Summersault) and good wine. A nice place to chill out.
