visited last tuesday night, large pub which had 1 real ale on,which was yachtsman from island brewery, which was ok.seems a family place with large partys eating what looked like very big portions of food.worth a visit, but could do with some more beers on.

Went to this pub on a week day lunchtime. Looks very nice from the outside & is well presented inside and fairly large. We ordered food and waited 45 minutes for it to turn up (it wasn't exactly busy either) When the food finally arrived, the burger was burnt and very dry and the cheese we ordered for the meatball & spaghetti did not turn up. There were no sauces offered or provided and the drinks were expensive. Definately will not return and would not reccomend at all

I am a resident on the Island and have begun going to the Bugle, to eat with family and friend. On several occassions i have been met by the smiling face of James who is ALWAYS helpful and attentive and most eager to please. In my mind a crucial member of staff going out of his way to be make sure we are all happy. Above and beyond our expectations, rare nowadays, sadly.
The food is of a high standard, its clean and their evening meal offers are brilliant, especially The Curry Evening on a Tuesday night.
Yes soft drink prices are too high, this seems to be standard across the board, sadly.

Oh Dear ! --- What a disaster of a pub!
You have to now pay to park in the car park. Watched over by cameras. -- What a welcome!
Prices differ from one bar to another by at least 10%
Staff are indifferent. Food is basic. Not good value.
We will not return

We decided to go to the Bugle Inn last week as they had an indoor and out door play area for my young grand daughter as advised we made a booking.
On arrival the staff didn't seem interested and were chatting amongst themselves, eventually when we did find someone but he couldn,t find our booking.
We ordered and were told that the meal would take about 60 minutes as they were busy. We decided to stay as our grandaughter was enjoying herself in the soft play area. We ordered wine but they didn't have our first two choices and we were told that there wasn't a goodie bag as promosed in their advertisement to go with the childs meal.
After waiting for an hour and twenty minutes I enquired how much longer our meal was going to take and was told that they had had a power failure and our order had not gone through and if it was to be re ordered it would take another 60 minutes to arrive. needless to say we didn't stay and asked for our money back which took some time as the staff were unable to do basic maths and take 17 the cost of the wine off 72.
The staff were un helpful and really didn't care that we had waited so long I would never go there again or recommend this place to anyone.

This could be a fantastic pub. Trouble is if you go on a Sunday and you haven't reserved a table, you could end up squashed in a corner. If you're lucky. Meanwhile, there are hordes of empty tables with poncey "Reserved" labels on them. Ridiculous.
Also, popped in there this week, only really wanted to use the loo but thought I'll buy a Diet Coke out of courteousy. It was 2.15 (or 2.25), what an outrageous price. I can buy a pint or bottle of beer in other places for that. Glad I said no ice!!

i am a pub owner myself and pride mysef on the fact that customer service& well trained staff are a must, sadly this was not the case in this pub, today!! very ,very, disapointed as i was recommended to go here, it was my birthday today and i really wish i didnt waste my money in this pub, The food itself wasnt bad, good menu, but the place is let down by the staff , that were on today,we were not welcomed with a hello or a smile, infact i felt completely unwelcomed, the staff were not motivated or interested at all, it is the worse i have come across in a long time, whilst eating our food we were watched by two members of staff as if we had two heads or something, the staff made no effort whatsoever to welcome any customers that came into the pub whilst we were there, it was awful, you could cut the atmosphere with a knife it was more like walking into a wake than a pub, i had given it alot of thought before posting this as being a pub owner myself i know it takes years to built a reputation and one or two comments to wreck it, but i hope the landlords take stock of this comment and pull there staff to one side and sort out there attitude, & customer service skilss or lack of it, would like to say any pubs or restaurents food could be superb but if the service and customer service is bad you wont go back and i will never step foot in the place again after the way we were treated and served today.

This pub seems to concentrate on food rather than beer, only one real ale from Goddards which was well kept and the usual lager and beers you would expect.

Carvery food on a Sunday dinnertime which looked good but had a lot of people waiting for it.

Large outside drinking area and a play area for children and a thatched pagoda for smokers.

This is one of my favourite pubs on the island !!
Family friendly but also has a part of the pub which is for the more "quiet" drinker.
Wide range of cheaply priced drinks served by polite helpful staff.
The food is gorgeous and very reasonable and the special curry night and burger night that we experienced when we visited were a winner.
There is a huge outside play area for families and also an indoor soft play area. The kids love it !
The whole pub is bright and clean and welcoming.
When the food arrived at my table from a helpful waitress, it was served with manners, which a lot of pub staff lack these days !! I cannot fault the food. Each of us had a different dish and each of us were equally thrilled with what we had ordered. Generous portions but they was so delicious no one wanted to leave any !! Still managed to look at the desert menu though..lol. What a wide selection of dishes and something for everyone and everyones budget !
Cannot fault the ales and spirits as each one went down easier than the first as so reasonable.... not a fan of the local ale from godshill but not the pubs fault.
Huge car park at the side which is handy but in the summer as the pub is so popular u may have to search elsewhere for parking as around early evening the place gets quite crowded. Plenty of parking down the road though.
I cannot wait to return here in a couple of weeks.

Keep up the good work Bugle as u are a winner !!

I have given this pub a well deserved 9! We arrived last Sunday for a carvery meal with the grandparents, and we were not disappointed- the carvery meal was gorgeous, plenty, cooked perfectly, and lots of hoice. The deserts were very nice indeed, between us we had a mix of ice creams, banoffee sundae and brownie sundae.. yum!
The service was quick, and the staff very well mannered and polite- and very happy to help with anything.
My 4 year old was kept very happy by the indoor play area, peace for us! And again outside , while we had a drink in the sun, he played happily on the wooden play area.. a hit with him! the childrens meal was lovely, proper chicken breast, not just nuggets from a frozen packet, and a good choice of chiuldrens meals & drinks.
To top it off, they give each child ordering a kiddies meal a Bugle Goodie bag- made from recycled paper( a plus!) ontaining colouring, a paper project, a dragon ornament( boys bag) and 2 natural carved colour pencils.. a lovely touch( considering the money from the sale of these goes towards helping children off the streets).
I would come here again and again if I lived on the IOW! Definitely be visiting next time we visit the family. Thank you!

Came here for the first time 2 weeks ago on a Thursday evening around 7.30. The pub was empty except for 4 tables. We ordered a steak sandwich and a prawn cocktail. An hour later the prawn cocktail arrived and a meat pie? Another half hour later we got the steak sandwich with 3 small strips of steak and some under done onions. Although the prawn cocktail was very nice the same couldn't be said for the sandwich. However it came with a half hearted apology from the waitress. I must say what other diners were eating looked very nice but we left very dissapointed and shall not be returning in the near future. For all the hype this place gives I would tend to agree with all the other reviews on this.

I have seen some of the bad reviews as many years ago, yes I know things change but during the period of 1988 - 1995 it was without doubt the best pub in the world, the food was fantastic as was the beer, plenty for kids to do in the garden and games for them in the pub, it is such a shame that if it has got very bad - i think in them days, it was run my Mike & Sandy, brilliant pub in them days - my rating is based on the old days

Just returned from our hols and used this pub nearly every night as we were camping nearby, very friendly and good home cooked food. great play areas for the kids inside and out will return..

Please IGNORE the review below as it is a complete and utter lie. I have worked there for at least a year now and at NO point has it got a new carpet and we DO allow dogs in if they are on a lead which is very reasonable! If these people had actually paid attention they may have noticed that every night one of our regulars comes in with his dog..? So that is another lie.. they would never have been told to sit outside! There is also LOADS for young children to do! A huge outdoor play area, a ball park and slide ect inside AND with every childs meal a free goodie bag is given out with colouring, puzzles ect.. So.... I have asked for the comment below to be removed as it is factually INCORRECT! Oh and we are not a fast food restaurant.. If you wanted fast food there was a Mcdonalds down the road.. Yes an hour and a half is a very long time to wait for food if that was ACTUALLY your waiting time. However you may not have realised but that pub seats over 200 people.. If you would like to maybe spend a night in the kitchen as one of the 3 chefs turning over about 2 sittings (around 400 people!) Maybe you would appreciate how much work goes in.
ExcuseMe - 11 Jun 2009 09:30
Absolutely and undeniably a complete let down!

We arrived in the IOW on Saturday and noticed the Bugle Inn as we were driving to our resort and thought what a great place it would be to go to as we had 2 kids and it boasted about both indoor and outdoor play areas.

We went there on a Thursday evening and took the dog with us....first let down! They would only let the dog in at one particular table and that was taken. It seemed irrelevant that over half the pub was empty and there were plenty of tables away from people eating that we could have taken the dog. We were even told that we couldn't go in one area as 'they had recently had new carpet' and that 'most people don't like dogs'

We were therefore forced to sit outside, which was fine for a while but then got more and more chilly. Asked again for a table inside but got the same reply.

The boys were enjoying themselves in the playground but there wasn't much for the younger children to do to be honest.

We ordered our meals (1 curry/1 scampi/1 burger) at 19:45 and proceeded to sit down and wait.....and wait....and wait....and wait some more! I eventually went in and asked what had happened and was told that our meal would be 'about' half an hour! This would have been 1 and a half hours for 3 meals! We were not told at the time of ordering and no-one came and informed at any point of the wait. When I asked for a full refund I was told that they would need to speak to the owner first! Speak to the owner to give my a refund????

This was given and we promptly left at 20:50 with no food and 2 hungry young children.

The staff were unhelpful, rude and had a couldn't care attitude. If you are thinking of going to this hell hole please spend the hour and a half that it will take to get your food to have a look around the island and find somewhere else.

Absolute shambles of a pub

1/10 - only got 1 because the playground kept our boys amused for a bit

A ghastly pub. Huge, soulless, almost completely empty at 9.45 on a Sunday night. We were greeted by the smell of stale meat as we entered, but we had to have a drink as we needed to ring for a cab to take us back to where we were staying, a couple of miles away.

The worst thing was the attitude of the woman behind the bar (presumably the manager), who refused to serve us a second drink at 10.20pm, saying that they were closed, in a very hostile manner. We were hoping to stay for 10 minutes, plus the statutory 20 minutes drinking up time, before we had to leave. Her explanation for the abrupt closing time was that "We're not a pub, we're a restaurant, so we don't have to keep those hours". Funny, that, as it's called an inn, and says it's a pub outside! We then left and got a drink in at the more basic, but much more friendly, pub up the road. Have you ever heard of customer service, Bugle Inn?

Popped in for a mid week lunch, off season in IOW so quiet, as was the pub. Very large bar area which is dark and has one of those awful lurid carpets, but plenty of room to sit down, and, if you have kids, an enormous play area for them. The menu is basic but they do the simple things well, food & plates are hot, helpings are plentiful and food is well cooked. No complaints-not the best pub in the world but certainly not the worst and a welcome antidote to the "gastropub",

Finally decided to visit this pub after spending a few years visiting the IOW. Went for Sunday lunch and I must say the food was excellent. Carvery-style and very very plentiful and satisfying. The only problem was was the staff... It felt like the manageress and her three young girl staff must have had the most horrific argument that morning and they all hated each other for some reason. Not only could you cut the atmosphere with a knife, the service was appalling. I even tried to say thankyou and goodbye to the manageress and she simply carried on making comments to a colleague and looked right through me. What an absolute shame especially as the IOW relies on the tourist trade and this level of service wont see me coming back.

Large pub with plenty of parking and childrens area outside. Have visited a few times, but found the food and drink vary's, sometimes OK sometimes not.

I visited once in October 2004. The fish and chips were overcooked. I was very disapointed. Would be reluctant to make a return visit.
