Having seen many managers come and go over the years, it was really refreshing to see the new landlady making a real effort to return the pub to being a clean and welcoming place to drink. Many people including myself had been attracted back from other pubs. I thought she was making great progress with the appearance of this rundown pub & certainly had a good cleaner. Unfortunately that all has gone to pot since she left in August. The place is now back to being dirty, the toilets stink & the couple running it now lack personality & customer service skills. I don't think the pipes have been cleaned since that lovely landlady left as I ordered a pint of Fosters at 10.30 at night that stank of eggs & was told it was the 1st one pulled of the day!!!!!! Note to owners - know a good thing when you've got it (You lost a good girl there) - the pub has gone downhill fast & is full of kids.

I was glad to see a new land lady, however it doesn't make a difference, still ban people on hearsay, they think all drivers licenses are fake and you must use passports (Just because its a provisional license), as usual its not really a welcoming pub, this isn't really a place you can have a lot of drinks with your mates, you'd probably be banned for accidentally smashing a glass in this pub. Sorry land lady, but its the same old shit. At least you have made an effort to tidy the place up!

New management now in place and a huge improvement!! Improvements in staffing and decor make this local a lot more welcoming - Still no beers on handpump BUT!!!! now serving Hoggleys beers from the barrel! Back on the up and still improving - give it a try!!

Should the landlady be allowed to write her own reviews ?

I think the Castle is ACE! Everybody is really friendly in there no matter what time of day you go in. If you are new in the area and don't know anyone this is the best pub to go in and make some funny friends. Always having a laugh and a joke, all the locals are fun to chat to. Nothing gets too serious in this pub. its a proper pub to go chill, have fun and make new friends. Well done Castle-ites!! Always handy to find a builder, plumber, leccy man, computer expert or general know it all for anything you need to know.

All the poor reviews get instantly taken off - make of that what you will - definately not the smartest place in Olney but a warm welcome awaits the chav !!

Is big bum banned from the castle or just not welcome i wonder???
Its a good pub, very friendly, lively and welcoming.
I didn't see any snake bite or under age drinking, and everyone looks young to me!
Give it a try, free pool on tuesdays, free jukebox on thursdays, sport on 4 t.v's and a big screen! Darts and quiet lounge on one side and a new garden area out back.
A massive improvement, Keep it up girls!!

True that this place did go down hill for a while but what do you expect with different 'landlords' coming and going every couple of months. Definately nicer there now that certain unpleasant rude and abusive locals have stopped visiting there(or is it just that the new landlady has done us all a favour and banned them). All I hear is good things about the Castle now a days which is more than can be said for most pubs around here. May the good work carry on. Maybe I'll even get a free drink from this!!!

I live in the area and visit this pub on a regular basis. To be honest it's not the best looking pub to the eye.
However, it is a proper old fashioned drinkers pub. It has a pool table, darts board, jukebox and several machines. It doesn't serve food but will always have sports on the tv or big screen.
It is the best place to be in the town when it comes to watching sport!
Also, as it has been stated, is under new management and the new landlady is lovely and down to earth. Since the change, work has been carried out on the exterior of the pub and i believe work is due to start shortly on the interior.
Many of the previous troublemakers are no longer welcome, and there are very strict restrictions with regard to under-age drinkers.
I was in the pub when it was visited by police looking for under-age drinkers. They left red faced to say the least.
It's still no fantastic pub but it is improving, and will certainly stay my local as it's a pub on the up!
Anyone who hasn't visited it in a year or so I would suggest popping in for a quick visit-i guarantee an improvement.
Thanks for listening!

NOT CLOSING as previously uniformed member stated, was grim with old Manager and some staff. New Landlady pleasant and welcoming, staff good, no trouble anymore (heard there used to be some). Beer very good now the place is run properly and the pipes cleaned.
Bit smokey but hey it's a pub!! If you want no smoke stay at home...

My local and staying that way. Other pubs in Olney full of wierdo's or kids!! Chavs found in the Brewers, Bull full of Yuppies and the Swan is clicky Central unless you drive a Merc!!

I've got to agree, I was working in the area a little while ago and stayed at a local hotel. For the two weeks I was there I drank in the Castle. I was made to feel welcome, as were my collegues, by the bar staff and locals. It was really good fun!
Most relaxed pub in the area, everyone talks to you and I have to agree the staff are stunning, and I didn't see anyone in burberry either!
Toilets may not be that special but for what you're putting in them what do you want?!
Well I'll be going back there and that's a fact!

P.S. I think you'll find Chav Central is located on the market square.

I have to disagree with the other comments on this place! What a fun place to go, it's a proper pub you can smoke at the bar! Staff were stunning, clean and very friendly! and so were the other people drinking in there (I didn't see one person in burberry baseball cap!).
Various shots on offer for a pound, who can complain at that!
All football matches are shown on a big screen and they often have live entertainment.
Well worth a visit!
