nice pub

Called in here today, desperate for somewhere with disabled access, child friendly and food at a reasonable price... A big ask in Brighton I know but we were very pleasantly surprised by the Market Inn.
Only one step to negotiate on the way in, locals friendly and helpful, bar staff even more so, food absolutely superb for the money (£6-8 main course). Three of us ate and drank for less than £25 and they were showing the footie too.
Heartly reccomend the steak and ale pie (no gap twixt crust and filling, veg all fresh and tasty, mash just made). Suer find, we'll be back again sometime soon.

Yeah the amount of atmosphere is beyond question here.

A great town centre pub with lots of atmosphere, friendly staff and good beer. Prime location and well worth a visit.
|
Walk inside. If your a stage artist, your love it. Everyone turns and looks at you. Talk about being sized up as you enter. Uncomfortable.
Outside, nice, relaxing. A bit of a 'can't see much' atmosphere but on a nice day not bad..
|
Pleasant to sit outside but inside a bit dour, unfriendly and forgettable.
Token pub geezers standing round. Sit outside and avoid them and watch the world go by. Only then is it worth a visit.

sorry but the recent refit has made this place look like..... i dont know im lost for words. gone is the freindly little boozer and most of the regulaurs that used to drink in here.. even to find out i am barred from this pub was a amazement.. maybe the real london pub company dont want people in here. another example of a small buisness growing too quick and not caring about 1 thing.... !! there customers!!.
|
Popped into this place by chance the other day. A Mistake, I wont be back. If any of the staff are reading this all I can say is that I am so sorry for ordering a pint, I did not mean to ruin your day. The pub looks lovely from the outside but the interior is drab and cheap. It is a shame that to have such a central location this pub does not make the most of it and have a cosy atmos that the exterior hints at. Ha ho its their problem.

Princess22 might be pleased to know that, following England's exit from the World Cup, the flags have been removed.
|
lite on atmosphere. but clean & the beers looked after.
|
Find this pub a bit sad! too many England flags all over the place, not any charm what-so -ever!

Now has a Wednesday Quiz Night (questions set by yours truly). £1 pp, max 4 per team, free food for all particpants. Winning team takes the cash, drinks prize for runners up. Next Weds (14th) is Xmas 'themed' and will be last one until New Year.

This place just gets better ! Had one (or three) of the best pints of Timothy Taylor Landlord today that I've ever tasted . Must be down to the care that Chuff took over it before he deemed it suitable for human consumption. Stonking.

Thanks to pgazz and Anne, btw, for very prompt answers to my last post. I understand now - should have the site more closely, really. :-?

I'm curious that this pub has a 6.7 rating yet does not show up in the Top Ten list on the home page, yet many 6.6-rate pubs do. Marama has, unfortunately, left us again (this time for Canada) but I still rate this place, even if the beer has gone up by 5p a pint in recent weeks.
|
Marama's back! Maybe only for a few weeks but it's great to see her again, looking tanned and sleek from her months on the piste. My rating goes up a point in celebration

I've been using this pub on a regular for a few months now and would just like to compliment all concerned with the place on providing a friendly, proper pub atmosphere in the heart of Brighton.

Located at the rear of what used to be Hanningtons department store, the Market Inn is owned by The Real London Pub Company. Inside, it does give the appearance of being a traditional late-Victorian metropolitan hostelry with old prints, paintings and etched glass mirrors giving a slightly ornate feel to a one-room interior around a central, classic, boat-shaped bar. Viewed from outside, the Inn appears to date from a century earlier, with two bow windows on the first floor being the main features of this three-tier building with its smart green and cream frontage. Ales for sale were (Charles) Wells Bombardier, Youngs Bitter and Harveys Best Bitter. I did find the beer a tad too warm, as has also been my experience in a few other places during these hot late-spring days, but in all other respects the Bombardier was a good pint. Accommodation is available, and more information and photographs at <http://www.reallondonpubs.com> (Spring 2004)

I totally disagree with the above comments, the landlord wasa really unpleasant and impatient, so much so that we decided to go elsewhere, resulting in him shouting obscenities and calling us snobs! We found this comment very amusing as, we are all working class and very proud of it. He obviously has a big chip on his shoulder. Would not recommend this at all, we went to the Ha! Ha1 bar across the road and were treated so well, as you would expect to be treated. I can honestly say, I have never been treated like that in a pub before.
