Me and my partner called in on the off chance today while passing through, we was welcomed with a friendly face behind the bar which I think was the landlord.. It was a clean and warm environment with log fire burning away.. We decided to have a meal from the special board which was great value for money and was lovely.. They also do a selection of hand pull beers .. Our visit today was lovely and we will most certainly call in again.. Thank you

A NOTE From The Landlord:
Larks vomit mash, honestly, that's so last week.
We have a great 'Pub Menu' which is then complimented by our specials selection and a range of traditional ales.
Our winter opening times are from 12 until 2.30 Monday to Thursday and then we open at 5pm. Open all day from 12 FRIDAY-SATURDAY&SUNDAY. In March until September we open all day everyday.
We also operate a Village Store which opens from 7am and then is open during our pub opening times.
If you're passing and fancy a pint or a coffee, pop-in and check us out.

Keep smiling

At last. A genuine review. This pub will certainly be added to my list of must-visit hostleries!.

I visited this gem of a town centre pub last week and was blown away by the quality of the beer , food and service levels. The voluptuous duck breast with larks vomit mash I sampled was absolutely superb and the Chefs Cumberland sausage was very satisfying for my wife.
Four well kept ales available and my pint of Old Scrotum's Scratchings was the best I have experienced this side of Doncaster.
And the service offered by the landlady could not be faulted and the special service provided in the Gents toilet came as a pleasant surprise.
Hows that Tuna ?

I visited The Pack Horse about a year ago and saw that there were developments in the offing. What a brilliant transformation. The Licensee has certainly worked very hard and put in some effort to make this place a very welcoming village pub. The food was great the beer was great and the licensee was friendly, amusing and attentive when serving us at the bar and at the table. My wife had Crayfish Linguine and I had the homemade lasagne the bill with a couple of drinks each was less than 25 quid, just the ticket. This place is definitely going to be top of my list.

Sunday Lunch was fabulous, my wife and I commented on the fact that perhaps it was the best we'd had in quite some time. This pub is splendid and all of the people working (Flat-out) SEEMED TO BE ENJOYING THEIR WORK AND INTERACTION WITH THE DINERS. The beers and wine were well priced and the menu was spot-on for a Village Pub. We would recommend The Pack Horse highly. The outside looked fantastic, with planters and hanging baskets: the inside was clean well kept and lovely and warm with a log fire blazing away. This pub is obviously well cared-for and all of the team cared for the customers very well indeed. 10 out of 10. well deserved.

never have i had such a poor experience at a pub. Food served all day as advertised? No chance. Apologies for no food mid afternoon on a saturday? No, the chef has a poorly hand. Welcoming? In your dreams. I read recently that pubs are closing at a record rate. Well this one should be next.

No effort, no atmosphere, no style, no chance. Good riddance.

Well what a little gem and so unexpected. The outside of the pub really doesn't do it justice. Roaring log fire and excellent food to compliment the 4 real ales on offer. The pub has an active skittles and darts following as well as a good crowd of regulars. Well worth a stop-off when travelling along the A17. For the summer months there's a great eer garden and outside seating area.

Seems to have changed hands. Food offerings not as good. Beer down to two of the usual pubco offerings: John Smiths and Black Sheep. Had a John Smiths: quite a nice pint.

We came across this place whilst en-route on the A17 and looking for somewhere for lunch - it's only a minute from the A17, a major road that doesn't offer many good eating places.

A really nice, old-fashioned pub. Well patronised, even on the Monday lunchtime, which must say something. Bar staff were friendly and obliging.

Two lovely pints, one of Adnams, one of Batemans - both were spot on. Well kept and just the right temperature. It was a hot sunny day and they went down a treat.

The food was good, a huge plateful and reasonably priced. We had two meals, three pints and it came to just over 20. Not certain they do food all the time, please check.

A little gem and somewhere I'm sure we'll call at again when in the area. Well worth a visit for both the food and the beer.
