Classic old back street boozer,although the backstreets have gone!It is Holts Mild or Bitter.The mild was very good.great to see a drinkers pub like this survive and doing well.

Classic old style Holt's pub with a brightly public bar, small serving bar area and a parlour. Holt's Bitter & Mild on handpump. Asked for a pint of bitter and was offered a choice of Holt's or Boddington's keg - bit of an affront even having Boddington's in a Holt's house really. The Holts was nice (and cheap) enough and the pub is one of those timewarp kind of pubs of old.

I ventured back into this pub about a month ago (having not been in for several years) and was highly impressed with the Holts bitter which rivaled any of the cask ales you can get at other pubs in the area.
Yes, it's just a basic pub, but it does the basics well - it serves great beer at a reasonable price. I am now going to work this into my regular crawl.

Pub has struggled for a while. Holts bitter was very well kept on my visit. Decor was dated and chairs worn/torn. Bar area was very nice and can see why it merits it's place in CAMRA's historic interiors list.

I was tempted, living in Timperley but having been passed many times vbut not daring to go in.
Yous sold it to me, until you mentioned the City memorabilia, will probably stick with the Navi and the Gardeners
Is this pub owned by the same guys who are selling the lease for the Gardeners in Timperley and the Station Hotel in Alty ?

The Railway Inn is a small traditional old fashioned Holts pub, approximately a mile or so north of Altrincham on the main A56 road to Manchester.
In contrast to Hale Barns ( see my recent posting on the Bulls Head ) , Broadheath is very Greater Manchester-ish, and not Cheshire. I can't imagine the footballers - wives types coming here.
The Railway Inn is a basic, multi roomed local with the familiar Northern drinking lobby and the usual bar parlour, tap room, vault etc.
It merits a listing on CAMRA's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors.
The pub is situated on the edge of Altrincham Retail Park, where the usual out-of-town suspects may be ound. The pub probably did well to survive this extensive re-generation on its immediate doorstep, but disappointingly, there was an Estate Agents board on the wall advertising the lease for sale.
It's a Man City supporter s pub ( doesn't everyone who lives in Manchester support City, not United ?) , and there's some intersting pictures and photographs of the club's recent history, including a special Farewell to Maine Road ptint.
The Holt's Bitter was in fine form on my recent visit.
Not a must visit pub, but worth dropping in if passing through if you like pubs of this genre.
