Looks like the place should be in Essex. Trashy and gaudy serving cakes and pastries. Seems to be staffed by inhibitants of the Stepford Wives. Badly made up girls and thick bodybuilder barmen constantly looking at themselves in the mirror. Truly awful.

Absolutely terrible, avoid at all costs. Obnoxious patrons, patronising staff, and screamingly loud dance music blaring out from every corner of the venue.

It absolutely takes the biscuit for least tastefully decorated pub I've ever been in, also. There's a huge faux-gold statue of a Roman centurion, with what looks like an oversized penis next to it, and every table has an enormous LCD screen playing teen pop.

God, it's grim.

Last visited in January. Tables are not situated outside in the shade, so no sun at all. The management and staff really need to get their act tgether. They prices and quality are good but the smking area at the front attracts local rough types who shout and whistle as women go by, or abuse others they don't like the look of. It's a large pub but remains pretty empty. The bar staff look like that extras from The Only Way is Essex and are not particulalry welcoming. The major problem is who this bar that they no idea of want they want their market to be. Local yobbs, or more appreciative customers. After the language from the outside terrace, I would not return.

Recently revamped and reopened as a pub. Airport lounge style with multiple TV screens. Decent pint though the staff are pretty miserable and unwelcoming. Poor atmosphere and service.

The review by Santaclausiswatchingyou was spot on. This would make a brilliant place for a decent pub. I'm a great fan of the Brighton Evening Star - Bexhill deserves better than it has now.

Yet another failed venture of Pub makeover as an Italian style cafe in the heart of Bexhill on Devonshire square. Formally the DEVONSHIRE Hotel;again, another handsome, Victorian/Edwardian purpose built pub that was badly run and allowed to run down, a little over a year ago.

Dirty, badly lit and openly allowing drug dealing that would shame any holidaying drug dealer from inner London to witness passing by, it was little wonder this place failed. However it could be a great pub and cafe once more, if only a proper brewery, Fullers, Sam Smiths or even Weatherspoons were allowed to take it over.
It's ideally situated smack in the middle of town, large, opposite the side run of Bexhil station. Loads of space outside for seating and smoking, enclosed by the notorious line of Bexhill balls. An ideal establishment for a good ale house on the lines of the Evening Star outside Brighton station.
And take it back to it's traditional English name; The Devonshire!

The shorted lived change over to ZIPPERS put must people off simply by the name; with suggestions of trouser zips and gay bars. No wonder it was a short term flop.
Again, the Bexhill area is crying out for a decent, clean, safe, welcoming pub for all still; perhaps it might find one, one day? The Bell or The Devonshire would be ideal!

Seems to have re-opened as an Italian Restaurant- Ziggy's. Just what Bexhill needs, another Italian eating place!

Yes it seems to be closed

Visited last week and the pub was "closed until further notice". Bloke was removing barrels from the pub onto a van. Hopefully if it reopens it will get rid of the riff-raff (single mums with screaming kids and dodgy blokes swearing) and make it more welcoming.
It was always without atmosphere.

Pretty souless town pub. Usually has one or two real ales on: Harvey's BB being the most usual. Served well by friendy bar staff. There are many TV's dotted about so you can view whatever is on from about anywhere in the pub. They have Sky Sport on most days. Gets very busy at week-ends. Bouncers (very polite) on the doors in the evenings.

Hve visited here with my sister who lives locally. Mainly during lunchtimes. Lrge pub and OK staff and qulity of drink. Unfortunately there seems to be a group of "regulars" whoswer, making nsty jokes about jews, indians and how gays should be "strung up". How they and the bar staff 9and landladt I think) laugh. Maybe its Bexhill but this town needs a decent pub. This could be it, but, ls, I think not. Time to move on.
