user reviews of the Newbold Comyn Arms, Leamington Spa

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Newbold Comyn Arms is situated on the edge of Leamington. We struggled to find it at first. It's located in a park next to a leisure centre. In fact, its location is very nice. The large building in the picture appears to be a function room. Drinks service is from the adjacent Stables Bar. On entry to the bar area, one could have forgiven to have thought you were in a crèche. I'm sure the number of children outnumbered the number of adults. This status continued outside where there is a large grassy area ideal for playing ball games and a kids' playground. Drinks choice was surprisingly good - Warwickshire Beer Co. Darling Buds, Church Farm IPA, Purity Mad Goose & Teignworthy Spring Tide. Ciders were Thatchers Heritage & Cheddar Valley. Recommended.

Started my walk from here - stage 30 of the Millennium Way. Also ties up nicely with this pub, which is top 3 in Warwickshire, according to this site.

Strange that the actual pub is the barn conversion to the side of the pictured building - which is available for functions.

Nice enough inside. Four real ales on - 2 from Ubu and 2 from Slaughterhouse Brewery - both based in Warwickshire. I went for the Slaughterhouse Saddleback. It grew on me.

OK pub, but nothing really out of the ordinary.

Sounds good: I must look in some time, if only to say I've been to Leamington Spa in the North South East West Midlands...

Visited again over the weekend (as we Masters Swimmers usually do this time of year) Decent beers on Oakham JHB, Dartmoor Legend, Everards Malty Tasker as well as local Long Itch Backscratcher all on good form.
Sunday Lunch very nice and Saturday evening catering for our party of 65 with a hot buffet was very well received.
See you again next April

A good choice of ales welcomes visitors to the pub. A lovely outdoor area but quite a trek from the town centre.

Quite away from the town centre but worth the trip. We sat outside in the glorious sunshine and had a very pleasant bite to eat. I couldn't falut the ale either as it was all in good condition. I could imagine it to be a bit bleak in the winter but the warm welcome from the landlord was quite refreshing. Good pubs are hard to find in leamington but this was well worthwhile.

Food offering much better this year and beers all in excellent condition this weekend. Hooky Bitter and Hooky Dark nice but Church End Goats Milk was exceptional. Now only have 4 hand pulls on but it appears better to have more quality than quantity. Back again next year!

Its not very often I am moved enough to write about a pub Ive visited but Im making an exception here. When we last visited the Newbold the place cold and about as welcoming as a hole in the ground. We didnt stay long.
We heard that the place had been taken over so went to have a look. What a transformation! Warm atmosphere, happy cheerful welcoming staff, great music, fantastic selection of beers and they show which beers are coming next. New premium lagers, refurbished bar and new comfy patio seating. Had the tastiest burger from the BBQ only 3.90. All round, Leamingtons best pub give it a try.
Well done the Millers

Still a nice pub with lot of effort going into the beers.... 10 hand pulls but all "coming soon" apart from 3 or 4. But decent all the same. The sandwich selection lead a lot to be desired this year, inadequate packaging resulting in stale edges of the bread.... bring back the baguettes they were brill the last 4 years!

Splendid pub in the grounds of the park. Leave the car at home, have a wander round the park in the sunshine, plop down on one of the many benches and slowly sample the many decent beers.

During the summer, they even have a beer festival (a little one). Marvellous!!!

Because it's in a grassy park, it doesn't hurt as much as concrete when you fall off your bicycle when riding home(!)

I was put off this put around a year ago, dredful decor and service. Heard it was under new management last month so popped up for a beer at the weekend. Excellent bar, the best guinness i've had for some time!

Well worth a visit, its run by a family so really warm and welcoming and i had a guinness and a few of the real ales, all very nice and price werent bad either, i've give a good 10 out of 10!!

A bit dissapointed with the beer selection this last weekend all very samey and micro-brewy. Need to have at least one classic on and a range of ABV's

We were very much looking forward to this one seeing the reviews it has had, but I don't know if we caught it on an off day, but we were largely disappointed. Only 2 beers available on a Friday night and both of those pretty standard Pubco beers, the bar was fairly empty apart from marauding kids running around. Not worth the Taxi fare to get to it from the Station in our opinion.

Once the best pub in Leamington, recent experience suggests a decline.
When I was in there last, there were 2 out of 7 pumps in use. London Pride and a rather poor GBB by Slaughterhouse. Left promptly.
One friend reported it closed on a Sunday evening, another reported an empty Friday, and a third reported only London Pride on one occasion.
The place looks like it's on its last legs, a shame given that they'd secured a GBG for 2009. I don't even know if they can continue to the year 2009 itself.

Thought I would start and get fit for summer! Had a lovely swim and then as I was leaving I saw the pub. Beer was very very very good. Lucky I was walking as I had far to much!

Great community-orientated pub with excellent selection of real ales. Live music most evenings. Numerous events - always something to make it worth visiting.
