Wife and I ate there on Saturday evening. First class food and top class service by keen young waitress and bar staff. Lovely new decor and pleasant ambience. Evidently the new owner has 5 pubs in Winchester and is the first professional pub operator at this pub for 10 years. Worth a visit

I was in the area and looking primarily for somewhere to eat, and secondary to have a decent pint. I read the reviews of this pub, and whilst they were generally positive, I was a little concerned about the bad experience that the most recent reviewer had.

Still, I decided to give it a go. And was glad I did, as everything was fine!

I took notice of another review on here about the chicken curry being good, so I ordered one of those and a pint of Henry's IPA. The gentleman that served me couldn't have been more friendly and polite. The food was excellent, and the beer was pretty good too.

The pub itself is a nice 'classic' country pub, with a bar area, a separate area for diners (although food is also served in the bar area) and a small room with a pool table.

No problems at all here, I would go back if I was in the area again.

6X and Henry's IPA were on the handles, my 6X was in good condition. Our two chicken curries and one toad in the hole were good value and pleasantly served. Can't understand why there weren't more customers.

Seems to be picking up nicely with 3 ales now on including a regular guest from Wadworth stable. Pussers Spearfish on my visit - unusual but very well kept. Great enthusiasm about ale and the current state of the pub trade with appropriate literature in prominance. Friendly and welcoming.

Was in on Tues lunch during visiting the branch line from Brockenhurst. Quiet with only a few locals around. Friendly welcome ,Wadworth beers and good list of lunch food available. we had bacon/cheese ciabattas & chips and were perfect. On the pubs own website there seems plenty going on in the evenings. Collection of bottle openers above the bar.

to expand - for goodness sakes how does this pub survive - how will it cope with so many pubs closing? hope the few locals who were there when we popped in spend -a lot -as cannot for the life of me see why anyone else would stay for more than a very quick pint. no atmosphere - no good food on offer - a sort of sports bar but empty of anyone playing.

If it wasn't busy before the high tourist season it certainly wasn't on the BH Saturday!! A day on the IOW, pub meal in Yarmouth, roll off the ferry and into here about 9pm. Its a big pub and had one young couple playing pool in one room and at the end of the long bar counter 3 other customers were chatting to the barmaid. It took ages to get served then we played darts (badly) as the 3 left. As we left another couple arrived. Deadly quiet for a BH Saturday

Ate in there this evening (Wednesday) with the family. The landlord was friendly and the food good; decent sized portions from the specials board, main meals between UKP9 and UKP14; a decent chunk of chocolate fudge pudding for UKP3.50.

It's worth noting that it doesn't open until 6 and food is available from 6.30. It wasn't busy, but it was a wet day just before the high tourist season.

A quality pub. Despite attempts at changing it in the years preceeding 2007 and thus ruining it, new landlord Pete has turned it around - putting back in the darts board and pool table which were removed by some bloody fool. Generally turned back into a friendly, laid back pub and not some foody, gastro place. Good friendly chat with the locals, selection of Wadworth ales - pump and bottled. Good food from chef. Plenty of space. A nice place to unwind and have a decent drink and chat. Big car park available. Bike spaces.

Nice friendly pub which seems unchanged.Friendly staff and good ale.Worth stopping in for. They also do a jolly quiz on a Tuesday night where the atmosphere is friendly.
