Dined at the Kingsdon Inn last night - Fantastic food served by charming friendly staff in this picture post card Inn pleasantly furnished . Great beer, a few pints of 'Gun Dog' went down a treat and the dish of River Exe Mussels is to die for.

This is simply a great country pub with the added benefit of really superb food at fair prices. The chef works his socks off to provide top class dishes that keep people coming back for more and the word is starting to spread. With trade rising I suggest you go there on a quieter day of the week so you can savour the surroundings without the weekend crowd. Cosy and romantic, a great place to take someone special.

Kingsdon is a lovely village to walk around, very historic and interesting houses to look at and if you have young kids the playground is opposite the pub. just a mile from National Trust Lytes Cary too.

A beautifully restored pub, following the horrendous fire which razed it to the ground. Always my favourite venue pre-fire, and certainly not disappointed post-fire. A fantastic menu catering for all tastes, and always a pleasant surprise when you get the bill. Cheerful staff always willing to please diners. Chef always willing to alter a dish if you do not like a component (like a spicy sauce) and he knows just how to cook a "blue" steak. Make sure you book well in advance if you want to celebrate a special day to avoid disappointment. Every meal is a tasty delight. A clean venue that has a cosy atmosphere. Outside tables for a hot summer day or evening. Well worth a visit, and well behaved dogs are welcome.

A delightful couple have taken over this pub. He is an experienced head chef from a smart Somerset hotel. She is Italian. My lunch companion and I were each given a complimentary glass of mulled wine. The pub has been done up inside in excellent taste. The menu had plenty of choice and included today's specials. I ate delicious venison casserole complete with a range of vegetables. My friend ate pheasant which she also found to be very good. Although we live 30 minutes to an hour away we are already planning a visit in January.

Called in for a quick pint - the wife is organising a girls night out there in the new year. Very much food oriented - fully booked on a Wednesday can't be bad! Food looked OK and reasonably priced - fairly simple menu and the good news is you can now book in advance! Beer expensive - Butcombe 3.30 - and I had to ask for it to be topped up! Wine not too bad. Will report after wife's visit.

I heard recently that this place has re-opened.
So far, I know nothing more. Hopefully some worthy will review it soon, but if not, I'll stir me stumps and check it out.

I must admit I have often wondered about this place, and how they make any money,as the prices are enough to put off most people. I think I have the answer now though, as there has been a number of fires here, and this week, according to the Central Somerset Gazette, yet again it has been burned down. Shame really, as it could be a good pub in the right hands, but the right hands haven't yet held it. It'll be interesting to see how long before it's rebuilt, if it ever is.

Alas, nowhere near as good as it used to be - now a wannabe gastro pub where you are made to feel uncomfortable if you only want a drink. Certainly not worth detouring off the main roads to find.

not visited for a while....but a food pub predominantly, with some local drinking trade...but you're not really heartily welcomed if wanting just beer.
Ales, from Cotleigh, Butcombe and other SW independents, at last visit were of variable condition.....may have improved with latest owners (which seem to change failry frequently)...
