I must admit that I had meant to book our walking group into the Golden Lion up the road. Some how I got confused & ended up booking us into the Red instead. This turned out to be a fortuitous mistake.

We had walked up from Wickham on a cold blustery day &in very muddy conditions. Just as well that we all carried shoes to change into.
The pub is warm & welcoming. The staff that received us were very friendly. The service was excellent.

The beer, on offer were HSB & two others, all in perfect condition.

None of us could fault the food, fantastic steak & ale pudding as was the lamb, both priced at £14.00 but worth it. No one had any complaints only praise. Our orders covered everything from the soup to desserts.
Definitely one I don't hesitate to recommend. My rating a 9

A nice feel to the place. I went in recently for a lunchtime meal- fish and chips which was very hot and tasty. The place is obviously very popular as all the tables were in use. The staff were friendly and helpful. The beers were London Pride, HSB, ESB, and Seafarers. The HSB was fine.

This is now one of my pubs of choice in the area because it has a wonderful feel of a traditional country pub, blended with a friendly atmoshpere, good service and excellent food. I recently arranged a dinner for 12 friends at the pub and we were all very impressed. The choice of real aleas was good and they were all well kept. Having pre-ordered our meals, the food arrived on time, well presented, hot and delicious. It's always good to see a pub get its grub from local producers. We rounded off our meal with puddings from the blackboard, which were all very tasty. All in all, we had a great night, made especially so by Joe, Linda and the staff who ensured we had a memorable meal. One to recommend to others.

Visited 3 months ago. Food was ok but unremarkable for the price, ale was good. They were not keen to give me a table as i was on my own (working nearby) which didn't make me feel very welcome, but serving staff were friendly. Re visited Churchillian next day as this experience wasnt enough for me to return.

Our Hash was going to use this place for the first time on Sunday 7th March. Having prewarned them some weeks back and then visited on Saturday, they were well aware of our likely numbers 15 to 30, we never know how many. On arriving on Sunday we were forbidden to use their car park and told that if there was more than 20 of us, the surplus would have to go to the Golden Lion down the road, With that attitude, we negotiated with the Golden Lion and decamped there. They were delighted to see us as all were drinking (I had three different pints of their six real ales) several were eating and they asked when we going back.
Libertaion, Reg's Tipple were two that I remember and of course the Southwick Brewhouse is right behind.

Whilst there was quite a good range of beers (HSB for example) the food was pretty expensive. Not a bad pub.
As others have said 'they rely on their food sales' ...
Well I was there as they closed after lunch - the staff were going round laying tables, every single table in the place had a 'reserved' label. I said that they were going to be busy that night and received a knowing smile.
Well if a casual drinker is not welcome and cannot sit down, then I don't want to go there again - and I won't!.

Decent country pub which like many others mainly relies on food sales to keep going.

Whilst I didnt try the food, there was a small selection of real ales - Fullers London Pride & Seafarers on tap and the latter a decent drop and well kept.
