user reviews of the Prince Of Orange, Ashton Under Lyne

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Since this pub has now re-opened, the only beers available when I visited last night were Unicorn and I predict another Riot. The only cider available was boring Strongbow - no Old Rosie or Rosie's Pig, and the guy behind the bar looked at me askance when I asked about them. The "8 real ales" promise never ever materialised and I have a nasty feeling this pub is going to go downhill fast. There were young kids outside banging on the windows and, as usual, hardly any customers. I bet Robinsons wonder why the hell they invested so much money on making the place look so good. There was chewing-gum stuck to the leather of the bench I was sitting on, no music, just Coronation Street on the telly. Very sad to give this place a thumbs down - the Baker's Vaults is a superb place and the Prince of Orange could do with a serious marketing campaign to give it a boost.

Correction to previous post. The Prince is now being managed by the people who run The Snipe in Audenshaw. Yesterday they had two real ales on. One from Robinsons and the other one a guest. Prices seem to have lowered and it was busier than normal.

This Pub is soon to be reopened by the same owners as The Bakers Vault in Stockport.

Now has had another refurb and is looking good. The pub now has eight handpumps and stocks guests in addition to Robinson's beers. I enjoyed a very good pint of Cumbria Way on my recent visit, although only four pumps were in action - on a Saturday afternoon. A bit pricey for Ashton. Nonetheless 7/10.

Vastly improved and no carpets to stick to.

Now reopened after an extensive refurb. Smart, attractive and offering three cask ales. Bar staff and landlord friendly and efficient. Well worth a visit. 8/10.

Currently closed and undergoing a total refurbishment. To reopen early Dec 2014 apparently.

A well worn open plan pub. Nothing special and ale was poor. Handy for bus and tram stations but reckon there must be better around.

Robinsons bitter on cask here not as good as the caledonia. They have now decided to dump the karaoke on Sundays and have a band on which were very good. The outside has had a paint job but the inside could do with one.

My Dad took us in here as a kid for a meal on a Saturday afternoon and back then it was slightly ok.Not sure if they still do it but from what ive heard the rabbitt pie is suppose to be pretty damn good. Its in need of a good clean. Only 1 real ale (Robinsons) on but its not on bad form. This pub is opposite Ashton train station and if given a new lease of life could be a pub for the start of the real ale trail. The entertainment is terrible and similar to the bad acts on the x factor or britains got talent. So if your down in the dumps one day and need cheering up get yourself to the prince of orange and you can have a laugh at the regulars and feel your life isnt that bad after all.

Couldn't agree with DomBoogie more. Not to everybodies taste but if you like your boozers basic, friendly and noisy, this is the place.

I think the Prince Of Orange is a really good Pub, The Bar Staff are very friendly and People who run the Pub do a very good Job indeed! I find the Pub to be very clean & tidy, The Pub Decor inside is abit old fashioned and worn but i find it to be very cosey and warm accepting atmosphere....However The Prince Of Orange is very much central to everything such as the Train Station, Bus Station, Shopping Centre, Council Headquarters and on a busy Road! You tend to get the odd idiots come in and people who are abit rough too...but if they cause trouble the Landlord normally deals with them! Also you get alot of older people drinking in the Pub and Regulars who have been going in the Pub for years...most of them are very friendly, chatty and fantastic people to be with' Although you do get the local characters which can be fun to watch! Also if you like your traditional Pub Entertainment this is the Pub for you it can be a really good laugh...with anything from Solo Artists, Free & Easy where singers can get up and bring your own minidisc ( backing tracks ) and have a sing song, also Sundays i recomend a really good Karaoke there from 4pm! it advertises from 3pm but actually really starts to get going from 4pm Great sound and good choice of songs too.....

This pub isnt for people who want a romantic drink though! So if you like a good laugh and good entertainment this is your PUB....

Don't bother unless your into the seedier side of life, been in three times now, never again, scruffy, bad beer, terrible so called entertainment, misserable bar staff, and wont comment on the behaviour of the so called landlady, could go on but i won't.
Good points its near the bus station and shops and you realise how good life really is once you get back outside ?

The Prince of Orange is a pub in the centre of Ashton, next to the bus station - it serves hand pumped Robinsons Unicorn Bitter, which is in good condition. The pub dcor is a bit tired, and is maybe in need of some attention. In the Evening it can get quite raucous with the karaoke or entertainment, so it wont suit everyone.

Bad karaoke and the punters who love that sort of thing. Need I say more?

4th visit, 4th time karaoke has been on, wondering if it ever stops here? Robbies Unicorn bitter is OK.

Robinsons pub with a predilection for bad karaoke. Cask bitter.
