Firstly, a pub for me is about the beer. In this respect a very nice pint of Whitstable Bay bitter was enough to keep me at the Zetland for a couple of jars and some food. Lunch was good value for money and a fine example of pub grub. A mention to for the bar staff who, although busy, were friendly and efficient. All in all a great find and worth the walk or drive. I shallc ertainly head back there given the opportunity.

Recently acquired and updated by Shepherd Neame. Sadly the food is not as good as was and I dislike sitting under the menu board when I am eating. Very popular and right on the beach. Difficult to get there if you have a low slung car!

Idyllic location, this popular pub has been acquired by Shepherd Neame. It has been much improved (the decor is popular for many, although I'm not a fan) and delivers very good beer and reasonably priced food. Can get very busy and nearby parking difficult ~ but, once you find it, your effort will be rewarded! Welcomes dogs too!

Very much a locals pub I suspect. Good pint of Harveys. Superb view of sea and an easy walk from Deal or over the cliffs from Dover.

Walked to here from Deal on a glorious sunny day. Great beer, and a decent sandwich, sat outside looking out to sea.

On a sunny day last week I popped in here for a quick pint with some friends as we were camping nearby. The pub interior seemed gloomy and at 2pm some other customers were being turned away having asked for food, as the "kitchen was closed".I never understand why UK establishments turn away trade like this, then complain they are going to the wall.

Still, we got our pints of Master Brew and enjoyed them outside watching the sea and the great view across to France.

Make no mistake and be under no illusions about the food here. Its frozen, defrosted and microwaved. Slopped onto a plate and served with the usual finesse you'd expect from an uninspiring British pub. There's even a monster barking Alsation locked in a room above to welcome you. The Brakes Brothers van eases its way up the road on a weekly basis.
The location however is stunning. It makes it all the more miserable to sit there looking out to sea wondering why on earth there isn't some fresh fish being served. To add insult to injury they serve Green lipped New Zealand mussels.......local then? There are gorgeous local mussels to be had. Its a depressing experience indeed. Don't go there for the food. Go to France instead.

I visted this pub at the weekend and couldnt believe my eyes at how in just over a year since my last vist this place has become so run down! Great location but not looked after the beer was below standard and my lunch was not good. please please either buck your ideas up or will someone else come along and bring this place back to life

The third pub on the tour, only a couple of hundred yards from The Rising Sun, it's right on the shoreline with an unspoilt view of the English Channel.

A charming young lady with a rather wide belt ( or possibly very short skirt ) greeted my companions and I, and asked us what we would like at the exact same moment as the fellow I take to be the landlord. Very impressive.

The pub is smallish and cosy. No music - just the buzz of convesation. Beers on offer were Shep's Master Brew and Spitfire, and Green King I.P.A. We were too late for the Old Speckled Hen - a great pity as it was the "real McCoy", not this new-fangled 4.5% old jollop brewed in Bury St Edmunds.

Food is of a high standard with the specials all being of a piscatorial nature. Definitely more gastro than pub grub. The chef's special at 32.00 was an impressive sea food dish composed of just about everything that swims, crawls about the sea bed or attaches itself to rocks. A couple nearby were tackling this gargantuan repast with great gusto.

So whether you want a decent pint and a bag of Mini Cheddars and sit outside watching the ferries and other channel traffic, or stay inside for some quality nosebag - this pub does both quite happily.

It doesn't quite match the ambience of the King's Head, but is still worthy of a respectable 6/10.

Just a quick visit to the Zetland Arms so can't comment on the food but the pub was full of smiling faces and felt friendly enough. The beer was good too.

The pub has an excellent location - right on the beach at Kingsdown and there are some tables out the front from which you can contemplate the tides.

There are also some parking spaces outside - a rarity in Kingsdown! You can get to the pub by following the track down to the beach next to the Rising Sun.
