The Only time there is Loud unavoidable noise is on a Saturday night's when the karaoke is on it gets loads of non drinkers screeching there Lungs off on the karaoke then and Ive never seen them told too buy a drink if you avoid it then like most regular drinkers do its a good old boozer a bit run down but its ok.

I often use this Pub during the week and have done for well over 30 Years but I would not use at weekends when the Karaoke is on as I don't like that racket and I'm a bit too Old for Karaoke. Other times its a nice old fashioned Pub that showing all sports like Football Horse Racing Darts Etc. The grubs also very good but cheap like Pie & chips around £3 cant be bad. Also Beer prices are as cheap or cheaper then any other Pub locally. Theres a Pool Table & Dart Board as well as plenty of TV Screens too watch the Footy. All in all its a good boozer like anything else you go in when you like whats on if you don't like it you go elsewhere why complain.

"Add to this a cold pub, terrible blaring music and overpriced beer (for the area), and you have a thoroughly miserable experience. AVOID!"

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Beer overpriced??? I looked back on a review I did of the Ranelagh in 2007 and the Guinness was more expensive then (£3.30 per pint!) than the Springfield is now. Not having been in the Ranelagh for a few years I can't comment on what they charge but I bet it's not cheap and I very much doubt it's as cheap as the SPT.

As far as the issue about requesting that people buy drink - fair enough. I wouldn't dream of going into a pub to watch football without having a few drinks and resent seeing cheeky sods taking up table space without having the decency to purchase a drink. It is a business after all.

Maybe I'm old fashioned in that respect.

It still does what it says on the tin. A good honest boozer. Treat people well and you'll be treated well.

Mmmm, very suspect 'ccfc10' you join this site the same day you criticise this pub and haven't posted about any other pub.I have seen this happen on BITE before, you have either been barred and have an axe to grind or you run or work at a nearby rival pub and are running down a competitor.Either way you are one sad individual.Nothing that you say about this pub rings true
boundsgreenboy - 10 Mar 2011 16:00
Over priced beer for the area?
have you been to the the one up the road? :)
As for the landlord ordering people to buy more drinks, was this during a football match? If so, that could explain it.There appears to be a view (amongst some )these days, that you can walk into a pub and watch a game without spending a penny.
Your discription certainly doesnt match my experiences of the pub.

Not a pleasant place to enjoy a quiet drink... my main complaint is the staff, who give off a disctinctly mocking air to anyone who isn't in their clique of local regulars. Worse still, the landlord is an absolute tyrant, at one point ordering customers to buy more drinks and following a few guys who went outside for a casual fag to dictate where they could and couldn't stand on the public pavement!

Add to this a cold pub, terrible blaring music and overpriced beer (for the area), and you have a thoroughly miserable experience. AVOID!

Sadly this Pub seems too be going though a bad patch at present its getting rather run down and the (Owners NOT the people running it) are just letting it fall apart and are not doing any repairs at all. All it needs is a good clean & a lick of Paint inside apart from that its a good old style Pub with the usual locals. There was Courage Best & another Ale on tap as well as the usual lagers on Tap when I was in.

Oh and the Guinness has gone DOWN to £2.80
tottenhamsean - 1 Dec 2009 14:41
Monday they have bacon, potatoe and cabbage for £2.50,quality grub for a very good price :)
I love this pub.Decent Guinness, decent Locals and the barstaff know their Onions.

Cheap and cheerful, quick and friendly barstaff (and manager), nice garden and wendy house out the back for summer fun.

After reading the comments on here I went to the Springfield with high expectations and I wasn’t disappointed as I found it to be a great boozer with friendly locals and bar staff. A shed load of lager is available along with Pride, Courage Best, Tetleys Smoothflow and Guinness. I thought that the Pride was very good.

There is a small TV screen and larger plasma, but last week there was a sign in the door window saying that the Arsenal v Spurs game would not be aired due to no Sky Sports in the pub (surely not). There is also a pool table on a raised area at the front of the pub.

This is a decent boozer and a future stop off on my way home when alighting at Bounds Green after a few beers in town.

What alesonly said
The scottish barman is like barstaff use to be, has a bit of banter with the locals and remembers what you are drinking. And by wearing A sSt Mirren shirt proves he has a sense of humour as well :)
The other barstaff are good as well, as is the landlord
Definatly one of my favourite pubs in the Wood green/Bounds green area these days

As I said before I still use this Pub regularly and have been doing so since 1975 I still find it as good now as it ever was. What i like is Its still a proper working mens Pub. OK its Not Posh or tarted up I admit but its what a Pub should be in my opinion. It serves a good Pint of Guinness & even better now seems to have London Pride & Courage Best Ales on as well. Theres always a good crowd of regulars in to talk to and have a laugh with and the staff are always very good & friendly so I would agree with others try it you may enjoy a proper Pub not a plastic manufactured one like so many other Pubs are these days.

Was in here last Friday. Had a perfectly pleasant few Pints with friends. A good local Boozer, with friendly ,decent Barstaff who are good at their Job.
tottenhamsean - 17 May 2008 16:54
Good frendly if basic boozer.Does what it says on the tin.Looked better in the 90's when the bar was in the centre of the pub mind.
boundsgreenboy - 27 Apr 2008 00:08
A good old fashioned unpretentious boozer. Hasn't been decorated in 35 years, but who cares.
Half decent smoking area too.
London28 - 29 Jan 2008 21:55
Nice Old fashion styles Pub with good Old fashion customer service all the staff & other customers seem pleasant and polite. At least it’s Not full of self centred wanabes/show-offs and fake designer wearing customers posing at the bar all night. Good Pub for Real drinkers in my opinion.

Decided i'd lower myself and drink with the "underclass" on Saturday lunch time(that comment still annoys and amuses me at the same time)
We were on our way to a gig north of Brum, and were early for the meet.
Guinness was superb(as always) and the strongbow was "well nice" or so my companion told me.
She even commented on the pub" Not a bad boozer this"
So people ,dont be put off by the negative remarks ,give the pub go.
tottenhamsean - 24 Jan 2008 15:50
Kierah
Dont be so snobbish. The springfield is an ok pub, with locals that actually talk to each other(weird eh?)
Whilst i live dangerously close to the boozer, i dont actually use it that much, but when i do its always been ok with punters that are friendly

A bit like the Ranelagh use to be
tottenhamsean - 15 Dec 2007 16:54
if you like enjoying your pint with underclass then this is one place to try
keirah - 26 Nov 2007 14:03
Either that or he/she is in charge of the Ranelagh ;)
tottenhamsean - 31 Oct 2007 12:00
hmmm...

I wonder if anonymous has ever actually been into the Springfield. Doesn't sound like it.
mr_goatboy - 1 Oct 2007 20:44
I Must say Ive been drinking in this pub for over thirty years on & off since the days when I lived in Wittington Road opposite and I used to Drink Double Diamond here. In those days the bar was in the middle of the Pub. I must say have never seen any serious trouble in this Pub the odd argument but thats all but you get that in whatever Pub you go in where People drink plenty that happens thats life. This Pub is and always has been a good workingman's Pub Its not ponced up like other Pubs around here but its a good old style Pub thats what I like about it full of proper drinkers drinking plenty of beer. At least its not full of half pint Merchants and Shandy drinkers full of pretence like a lot of Pubs these days.
Alesonly - 30 Sep 2007 11:13
Dirty, rough and violent! If you want a hair in your beer or sit next to a drunk then this is your place. If you want a relaxing pint, pay the extra 20 pence and get down the Ranelagh.
anonymous - 17 Sep 2007 12:02
Nice good old style Pub its what a Pub should be. Its not full of foodies half pint merchants or poser's like a lot of Pubs around here Pity there's no Real-Ale on tap but Guinness Is good.
Alesonly - 9 Sep 2007 10:28
Agree with Goatboy - a good, proper local, especially compared to the awful middle-class pretentions of The Ranelagh up the road.

There's a good, regulars atmosphere, many of whom are Irish (hence the half-decent Guinness and regular screening of hurling and Gaelic football). But this ISN'T a theme pub in any way.

It's spacious, so if you're watching the football, you should be able to see. They've even installed a TV in the beer garden for die-hard smokers.
ChapmanBaxter - 1 Aug 2007 12:32
An honest decent local boozer. No airs or graces like the increasingly shambolic and pretentious Ranelagh up the road.

Good for watching football without hassle. I'd prefer a Real Ale on tap, but the Guinness is usually very good. Haven't tried the food, but it looks fine.

All in all a very solid and honest local.
mr_goatboy - 5 Mar 2007 13:00
Not a bad local, fairly busy.Very good pint of Guinness.Food use to be ok, but have recently gone "Thai" Normally the reason this is done is so the pub can get cheap labour.havn't eaten the food of late,so wont comment.
manager and bar staff, friendly and good at their jobs!Good to watch football in
Not a bad pub
