please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Visited here one evening with family for a meal. The pub is located in a rural location therefore it's popular with walkers and is dog friendly too. There's also a nice beer garden to the rear of the pub as well.

The pub is effectively split in two - one part intended for food service and the other mainly for normal drinking. It's nicely furnished inside and has a nice welcoming feel to it.

The food was great, all of us could barely finish our main courses as the portions were quite generous. With drinks and 4 meals it came to £86, not cheap but it was a celebratory meal.

I really liked it here, this was my first visit. Yes, it's not cheap but the service is good and the food excellent. It's worth stopping by for quick pint too if you happen to be passing by.

9/10

More-or-less my local (it's a lovely walk through woods to get there if you don't fancy driving). Decent selection of ales, and well-presented (if slightly pricey) food. Dog friendly, with nice garden which is busy in good weather. Can't say I've ever been insulted by the staff!

A member of staff (female waitress) insulted someone from my party as we arrived, unbelievably unprofessional. And it went downhill from there. Expensive, unfriendly and poor service. The worse restaurant I've ever seen.

This is my local, but I would not go very often as it is too pricey. The food is good but menu doesn't change often enough. The chefs don't always produce the dishes to the same standard on each visit which can be dissapointing if you don't like chilli for example which might be chucked in on a whim. Beer well kept. Interior clean and has the Canadian cabin feel. Located on the edge of Woodland with Public Footpaths which lead all the way down to Fleet nature reserve and the Railway Station (A good long walk for a day out).

Our party of 12 visited the Foresters on a warm April afternoon. Yes, it's as much a restaurant as a pub, but there was a good selection of ales as well as lagers and a big garden to enjoy. As noted below the food is on the pricey side - think 15 quid for a main course - but of very good quality and with some original ideas thrown in - ostrich steak, tempura battered courgette flowers etc - and excellent roasts ( it was a Sunday ). Only complaint might have been that the service was slow - but the place was very busy. Nevertheless - would recommend without hesitation for anyone looking for good food.

A warm spring day, a walk through the neighbouring heathland and the spotting of a juvenile adder eventually led to us pitching up at the door of the Foresters.
Having looked at their website I was prepared for a "poncey" gastropub whose staff would frown upon my boots and shorts. I was however pleasantly surprised. Yes, it's more of a restaurant than a pub but three beers were available - Otter, Spring Twist and the ubiquitous Doom Bar - the place was pleasingly decorated and there is a large garden which we eagerly used.
The food is a little on the pricey side - but not too bad - and this is the place to come if you fancy an ostrich steak or stuffed courgette flowers ! I had tempura battered chicken on a bed of vegetables and noodles and I have to say it was very good, as were all the meals that our party had. I have no objection to paying a little bit more for something worthwhile - the food here is a lightyear above some of the Findus Fish Fillets and oven chips concoctions I've eaten in pubs over the years.
And the staff were very good too. The young lady who waited on our table was chatty and gave good service.
All in all we enjoyed our visit to the Foresters and I would have no hesitation in returning.

Has more of a restaurant feel than a pub inside. The garden out the back looked a nice place for a summers day pint or few.

Had 2 beers on, both of which were very drinkable, and the food was tasty, certainly worth another visit, staff that dealt with us were friendly.

All in alI liked it

The Bar Manager / Owner (in the pink jumper) last Saturday during lunch shift rude, arrogant, and stuck up with some of the worst customer service skills Ive ever seen. Clearly this snobbish little man has a warped perception of any customers who dont match up to the idealised version he thinks should enter his so-so establishment. It was with little surprise then that I read some of the other less favorable reviews for this pubs attitude towards people with young children. Cleary a sign does need to be displayed warning as to the policy on entrance criteria and the dick who runs it.

Definitely not a pub. I last went some years ago when it converted to a restaurant and had an expensive pint served through a sparkler (a froth-inducing device to create a large head i.e. short measure) which they refused to remove for my following pint (which I then declined to order). Good fresh beer has a natural foaming head - if it's absent then either the glass is not clean or the beer is not as good as it should be. Have heard that once the food side is done (about 10pm?) then the place will sometimes shut and "encourage" drinking customers to leave.

After visiting The Foresters for only the second time in the last six months, I was pleasently surprised to see the changes made. After being greeted by friendly staff and seated we enjoyed an evening of fine wine, and delicious food. The new manager took time out to talk to us and other customers personnally, food is slightly more expensive than usuall but worth paying for the quality and fantastic service 10 out of 10!!!

Went to this pub on Saturday night, it was full of charm, delicious food (and I'm a food lover) and very helpful and friendly staff. Will definitely go back.

Now this is an odd one. I haven't been here for about a year now. I have been several times though and the food was always good, 8/10, but what stops me returning is the exorbitant prices charged for drinks, including wine, which I seem to remember was around 15, and a notable lack of a cheap (in price) house wine. Word of mouth amongst friends/people who talk to other people, in the area says that the food has gone downhill in the past year ?

Took my wife for diner at The Foresters today. The beer was OK, I had the Fullers ESB it was more then 3.00 a pint though. The food was nothing special, and we had to wait 50 minutes for it to arrive. The pub was not even particularly busy. I would'nt rush back, thats for sure.

Nice gastro-pub, if a little pretentious. Food is generally good & fresh but the staff do have their "off nights", particularly the landlord who regularly swings between being OK and just plain rude.

They do serve a nice pint of Timothy Taylors, a bit on the expensive side though.

Efficiently run pub. Good Timothy Taylors Landlord though a bit steep at 3.20 a pint. Decent portions of well presented food served in reasonable time. Didn't have a problem with the pub landlord who was courteous and thanked us for our custom. Good venue for a works lunch.

I also agree with the comments below. The Landlord was pretty offensive to both my friend and I and his Staff last night, for no other reason than he was in a bad mood. I certainly won't be going there again which is a shame as he Beer is good.

I would agree with the coments above - I had a really nice pint, however the same could not be said for landlord who maed us feel unwelcome as soon we entred as we were not going to eat despite me being one of the few people living with in waling distance. - Despite the tasty nectar, I wont be returning anytime soon.

After the change of ownership a few years back turned from a decent spit & sawdust dingy local into an annoying foodie pub with a spectacularly grumpy and unpleasant landlord. Avoid like the plague.
guinnessdan - 25 Nov 2006 07:05
Decent food reasonably priced, bit of a locals pub in the evenings and not the friendliest. Not a place that is walking distance from anywhere really but worth a drive for a bite to eat of a lunchtime.

Nice pub, bit out of the way. Pretty good food.
