| This is my local, but I would not go very often as it is too pricey. The food is good but menu doesn't change often enough. The chefs don't always produce the dishes to the same standard on each visit which can be dissapointing if you don't like chilli for example which might be chucked in on a whim. Beer well kept. Interior clean and has the Canadian cabin feel. Located on the edge of Woodland with Public Footpaths which lead all the way down to Fleet nature reserve and the Railway Station (A good long walk for a day out). Star_fish - 29 May 2011 13:39 |
| Our party of 12 visited the Foresters on a warm April afternoon. Yes, it's as much a restaurant as a pub, but there was a good selection of ales as well as lagers and a big garden to enjoy. As noted below the food is on the pricey side - think 15 quid for a main course - but of very good quality and with some original ideas thrown in - ostrich steak, tempura battered courgette flowers etc - and excellent roasts ( it was a Sunday ). Only complaint might have been that the service was slow - but the place was very busy. Nevertheless - would recommend without hesitation for anyone looking for good food. | A warm spring day, a walk through the neighbouring heathland and the spotting of a juvenile adder eventually led to us pitching up at the door of the Foresters. Having looked at their website I was prepared for a "poncey" gastropub whose staff would frown upon my boots and shorts. I was however pleasantly surprised. Yes, it's more of a restaurant than a pub but three beers were available - Otter, Spring Twist and the ubiquitous Doom Bar - the place was pleasingly decorated and there is a large garden which we eagerly used. The food is a little on the pricey side - but not too bad - and this is the place to come if you fancy an ostrich steak or stuffed courgette flowers ! I had tempura battered chicken on a bed of vegetables and noodles and I have to say it was very good, as were all the meals that our party had. I have no objection to paying a little bit more for something worthwhile - the food here is a lightyear above some of the Findus Fish Fillets and oven chips concoctions I've eaten in pubs over the years. And the staff were very good too. The young lady who waited on our table was chatty and gave good service. All in all we enjoyed our visit to the Foresters and I would have no hesitation in returning. ramblethenlunch - 22 Apr 2011 14:42 |
| Has more of a restaurant feel than a pub inside. The garden out the back looked a nice place for a summers day pint or few. Had 2 beers on, both of which were very drinkable, and the food was tasty, certainly worth another visit, staff that dealt with us were friendly. All in alI liked it . EdBeery - 4 Apr 2011 09:08 |
| The Bar Manager / Owner (in the pink jumper) last Saturday during lunch shift – rude, arrogant, and stuck up with some of the worst customer service skills I’ve ever seen. Clearly this snobbish little man has a warped perception of any customers who don’t match up to the idealised version he thinks should enter his so-so establishment. It was with little surprise then that I read some of the other less favorable reviews for this pub’s attitude towards people with young children. Cleary a sign does need to be displayed warning as to the policy on entrance criteria and the dick who runs it. soapbox155 - 22 Feb 2010 12:48 |
