Does anyone know if this place is still open? I went there on a sunday afternoon and it was all closed.

Don't go here for the beer. The bar staff can barely manage to pour a G&T without f**king up the order in some way. Shame about the staff in general, too cool for school AND they're not even that good looking anyway.

A gay bar that is not a gay bar - and generally doesn't attract the scene queens. When I take newcomers there they don't believe it is a gay bar at first - which is nice. Not a muscle mary in a tight T-shirt to be seen.

The bar staff are a tad disorganised, or stoned, or just reluctant to be customer-facing. Real ale is rarely on. The toilets would disgrace a rock festival on day three. The outside of the building is so decrepit it will soon fall down.

The music is often 70s and played on vinyl and rather good. Men are usually improved by growing a beard and there are always quite a few bearded men here. I like this place a lot.

Maybe the point at which the concept of "Hoxton" was taken too far. Still contains lost of the prime features of this area - the fins, a scrappy DJ table taking up far too much room in a tiny space, toilets of shocking dirtiness, cooler than thou bar staff and ironic wall hangings. The Bricklayers did it all better in 1993 and this place is in no danger of knocking the Foundry off its perch quality wise. It's as if Nathan Barley never happened.

What a DUMP!! I was there on 16/11/08 as a friend was DJ'ing and am happy to say i'll never go again. I always forget how utterly awful the place is! The staff would rather not be there and don't want to serve you. When you finally get served they get your drink wrong! I thought a double vodka, lime and soda was fairly straight forward! I bought a round of drinks and got ripped off!! 2 double vodka lime and sodas a double vodka and coke and a double gin and lemonade (which got soda instead) 28!?! Should have been 18. Then you speak to a person who is supposed to be in charge who looks like something out of 28days who more or less says "so!" Don't waste your time or money there.

The music in this pub has been first class everytime i've been in. It's a shame, then, that the staff there treat the punters like garbage. Possibly the rudest bar staff I have ever encountered in London (and there is some stiff competition), in particular the landlady/manager/ whoever she is. Plus they search your bags as you go in, cram as many people in as possible and generally treat it like a nightclub, rather than a tiny PUB, which is what it is. Worst example of p**-taking, trendy London i've come across in a long time. And they don't even serve particularly nice beer. How do these places get away with this rubbish?

Although originally a pub the George spent some years as a leather goods wholesaler, a common feature of E1/E2. Now well pretentious with a poor range of beers but definately well 'cool' and has some interesting interior features, some original some not. Check it out if you have a fashion mullet or just live locally. ('Well Brosnan' as we used to say)

Fantastic pub - I'd been out all Saturday night / Sunday day but this place still managed to get me dancing on a table! Wickedly friendly - not sure who was more dragged up, the tranny djs or the punters?!! Amazing.

I was initiated last night (Sunday). I now know how I will spend every Sunday night until I die. Tiny place, packed to the rafters with gyrating, smiling punters, unbelievably good-natured and - and, and, and - did I mention the DJ wearing only a pink thong, fuschia body paint, beard, blonde wig and a lion's tail?

This rocks. And that's not just because we live next door and nick their wine glasses. They do indeed do the best bloody marys in the business and james gooding will indeed steal your stool (ooh matron!). It's why we love Hoxton.

Best bloody mary ever. EVER!!! Good music too. More Hoxton than Hoxton

London's most pretentious new arrival. Run by Richard and Judy (ex Red Lion - not off the telly ). Expect to see James Gooding and Jarvis Cocker. And that's on a monday.
