please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A bit of a disappointed this place was if I'm honest.

We left the Clovelly bay pub just down the road which oddly shuts at 3 o'clock on a busy Saturday afternoon only to find the Boringdon Arms just down the road on a superb elevated terrace position in the charming village of Turnchapel.

However once inside it was an imeadiate disappointment as the place had no atmosphere whatsoever and we were the only people in here the whole time.

Everyone must avoid this pub for some reason and not sure why it wasn't expensive and although a little dull inside I have been in a lot worse.

A strange place.....

5/10

Used to be a fantastic pub until punch taverns bought it and invoked beer ties. Landlord has probably lost the will to live

The Boringdon Arms is a proper pub - not a restuarant that sells beer. There is a wood burner, a darts board and a traditional atmosphere. The landlord is lovely and always remembers my name. Fish and chips out of this world and hardly fits on the plate!

Avoid at all costs! I visited this pub for the first (and last) time last weekend. We arrived to find that our table 'in the conservatory', was actually a cheap set of plastic garden furniture in an area that's basically no more than a lean-to with a corrugated plastic roof. Wouldn't have been so bad if said roof was sound but it actually leaked constantly.

The menu is basic, which is fine, and the food was no more than adequate. Averagely kept beer, (you will find better at the Blue Peter in Plymstock). We did encounter the landlord during our visit, who for some reason likes to grab people's shoulders whilst talking to them - he did it to my mother and my father-in-law, so if you don't like your personal space invaded then avoid the guy!

All in all it was a damp night, in surroundings that could do with a damn good clean, with forgettable food and beer.

My advice - if you're in Turnchapel go to the Clovelly Bay Inn just down the road - the Boringdon couldn't hold a candle to it (we only went to the Boringdon to try it because the Clovelly was fully booked - will never, ever go back!)

I stayed overnight here with my wife and two small children on the way back from a holiday in France and we were treated superbly.
Even though we arrived after the advertised end of evening meals, I was able to choose from the whole menu. I went for the fish and chips and it was enormous, hot and very tasty. As it was late, my wife took our childen to bed and they even brought the food upstairs on a tray for us.
Washed down with some very nice real ale, I would highly recommend this pub for the quality of its beer and food and friendly welcome for all ages. Oh, and the breakfast the next morning was also delicious!

Excellant place. Had a lovely pint of Doom Bar and a one of the biggest and best portions of Fish in Beer Batter and chips I have ever had. Nice old pub with nice garden (with some little extras). 6 ales, 5 local and a very friendly cat. Well worth a visit.

Good pub, good beer, good food, good location. Definitely worth a visit if your in the area or doing the S coast path. Does reasonably-priced B&B too.

Top pub, great food for pocket money, superbly kept ales - and a regular beer fest - simply the friendliest pub in Plymouth! Heartily recommended to all.

Popped in for a very brief visit whilst on holiday last week - just the one pint and no food.

The pub is not one you'd stumble across by accident being situated down one of the tiny narrow streets that characterise Turnchapel. But it is certainly worth searching out.

As previously mentioned the beer selection is very good and the food looked tasty as well. The whole atmosphere is of a friendly locals pub, but as strangers my wife and I were made to feel very welcome. Although we didn't see any children in the pub (it was 8pm) we were told that the pub is family friendly.

There is a garden out the back with some amusing features.

Would definitely go back for longer when next in the area.

The best beer and the best pub in Plymouth bar none - and it is in a really pleasant part of South East harbour area, Turnchapel Village. There is another pub nearby - it's not bad either. But this one sells so much good beer and serves gorgeous simple food (yes to the Fish Pie). The great thing is - no boorish prats with tracksuits, something that really blights a lot of this quality city and it's pubs. Just thoughtfully spoken locals with a lust for life.

Took the ferry as recommended to Mountbatten (runs till 11pm in the summer) where a 20 year old warned us this pub was 'full of crusties'. I guess we're crusties at heart-- 10 points from us. Landlord gave us tasters of the selection like a Napa sommelier. Fantastic beer, friendly cats in an adorable garden, and a shockingly good fish pie. Would be a first-class stop on the South-West Coast Path, for any walkers out there.

Superb pub, it may be tucked away but if you ever find yourself in this neck of the woods then give it a bash you wont go far wrong. The food is quite simply of gourmet standard, the landlord is a gent and understands what the punters want. Theres a cute little beer patio, the decor is dark and cosy. Obviously a locals pub that welcomes it passing through custom with open arms.

Could not agree more. A well hidden gem.

This pub is the best in town. Nothing else can be said!

A gem of a pub. Not only do they have a superb range of local and guest ales the food menu offers something for everyone and all home cooked with very reasonable prices. Full of local character and entertainment at the weekends. They hold the occasional beer festival here. Good accommodation too and a superb breakfast in the morning. The landlord and his wife are a lovely and welcoming couple. You just cant go wrong. A good trick if you are in Plymouth is to take the Mountbatten ferry from the barbican and then walk the mile to the pub. You wont be sorry you made the effort.
