A great local to visit either for a meal or just for a few evening pints. Friendly both sides of the bar. Happy to have it just down the road!

For the last two Saturdays we had lunch in the Crown at Northbourne. It is sad that this pub is not registered with Beer in the Evening nor anywhere else obvious. Both food and drink are good and prices are very competitive. We had the haddock and chips for £3.50 last week and the special £4.50 2-course offer yesterday, comprising sausages / ice cream for Selina and steak pie / rhubarb crumble for me. Both were excellent. The most expensive bottle of wine is under £11.00 and Marston's Pedigree is on draught. This makes our usual pubs seem very expensive. We are considering relocating to the Bournemouth area and this pub tips the balance towards Northbourne.

Decent local, generous size portions, decent sports TVs. Friendly staff and clientelle. Offers all a 'local' should offer.

I just thought I'd mention that children are allowed in there although it might be before a certain time. I do however have the feeling that children are allowed in all of the time because food is served until 9pm. Hope this helps.

no kids no dogs but lots of mirrors!!!! go to the thatch up the road all are welcome with no bad attitude from the management. roll on there move abroad. we may go back when more welcoming managers take over? no offence to andy or sue.

The crown comes across as a well managed local where you will find many white van brigade painters, decorators and plumbers. Staff are very professional and friendly. Thursday night pub quizz is excellent entertainment. Has a separate sports bar which is more workman like. Latest range of food looks good for the price. Has been refurbished attractively. TV viewing is good because it has four Sky televisions. Drinks not expensive.

I go there quite alot, although I hardly ever drink but I have gone there to drink and it seems ok, Debbie is right, the alsatian has now gone, the pub is now under new management and the staff seem quite friendly, well worth a try.

The Crown is now an excellent pub since its refurb, and new landlord has taken over. We had a great New Year 03 and now tend to have another one this year. It attracts young and old alike and smells alot nicer now that mangy old alsation dog has gone. Debbie

Now known simply as The Crown.

The pub has recently undergone a referbishment - so it may now be more to John's taste. The seat covers are no longer torn, but the pub now has a 'trendy wine bar' feel to it. Agree, the beer can be a bit unpredictable - but I've never seen the alsation being ferocious!

Please don't tell me that this is a listed building like the nearby Horse & Jockey. An absolute dump. Every seat cover is torn, a ferocious alsation patrols the bar and the beer is foul.
